"Dante, Virgil, happy birthday." Eva said as she handed them a combined amulet.
"Cool!" The two 7-year olds shouted, taking the amulet from their mother.
"Hey it's mine!" The young Virgil said, tugging on the chain.
"No it's mine!" The young Dante said as he tugged the amulet.
"Boys, that's quite enough!" Eva said, taking the amulet. She then split it apart. She gave Virgil the gold while Dante got the silver. She sighed, things were a bit harder since Sparda had left. She understood though, he had to protect the world from what lied beneath.
Dante laughed and put on his amulet and started wrestling with Virgil. Eva sighed again. Those two had no idea what that there future would be fighting demons. How could she protect them? A knock came to the door. She grabbed a gun and went to answer. No one was there when she answered. "Dante, Virgil, go upstairs and play, make sure the doors and window is locked."
They nodded and ran upstairs. "What's with mom?" Dante asked as he locked the room door.
"I don't know." Virgil said, not bothering with the window, it was always locked. Then gunshots came from down stairs. Virgil gasped and opened the door. Dante chased him all the way to the stairs, telling him to stop. Eva ran up the stairs panting. "Run away Dante! Hide! You must Never come out! No matter what you must hide! Listen to me Dante!
Dante hid in the hole in the wall.
"No matter what!" Eva's voice shouted before blood spattered on the floor.
"The human woman...Sparda's woman...She's dead." A voice said. "They are dead."
"All of them?" Another voice asked.
"Yes, we've killed them all." The first voice said before steps sounded in the hall.
Dante sat frightened in the hole in the wall. Was it safe? The next morning Dante climbed out of the wall to find his mother dead and his brother's body missing.
"Mom..." He said, seeing the spattered blood on the floor. He went down the stars. "Virgil..."
No answer, not even a hair from his brother's body. They were all gone. Gone forever?
Eva
Eva shot at the huge demon before her. It wasn't working. She got out a sword and slashed at it. It just laughed. Virgil came down the stair's. "Virgil go back upstairs!" She shouted. To late.
Another demon grabbed him and threw him away, out of the house, bleeding severly. She dropped the sword and ran up the stairs and shouted to Dante. He hid at her command and once he was hidden she was struck from behind. She felt the blood seep out of her.
"The human woman...Sparda's woman...She's dead..."
Those were the last words she heard before she died.
