I'd been thinking about this for awhile and finally decided to write it. I love dramione and we never really know Draco's backgrund so maybe he loved Hermione? We just don't really know.
No-one knew about the quick glances.
Sometimes his friends would ask what he was looking at. But he'd just make something up.
No-one knew what he really felt. And that's how it'd stay.
He'd be shunned forever if his father found out what he felt towards the muggle-born. The way he'd feel like running through the halls and begging for her forgiveness after every fighting match.
When he first saw her it was like an angel from heaven. But after finding out her heiritige he tried to shove his feelings out of the way. He tried to force himself to love Parkson. But the truth was she'd never replace how he felt about Granger.
No-one would know about the time he snuck out of the common room and into the hospital-wing when she'd been petrified. He told Crabb and Goyle he wanted the serpent to kill her but inside he was itching to run and protect her. He hoped that she didn't remember anything from the time she was petrified. He didn't need her remembering the secret kiss he'd given her.
Things should've changed when she punched him but nothing did. It was just another thing to add to the long list of things that was great about her.
He remembered how impressed she was when Potter rode the Hippogriff. He supposed he was jealous. For the next thing he knew he was trying to prove himself.
When the death eaters had shown up at the quidditch world cup, he knew where she'd be safe. But he couldn't do anything. If Voldemort found out he'd be dead in a matter of seconds. Of course he had to stand and watch as his aunt tortured her right in his living room. But as much as everything told him to run and save her, his head told him no. Besides, he'd seen how Weasley reacted.
Then the fight at Hogwarts came and everything was just a bunch of explosions. He was relieved to hear Granger came out unhurt. But she'd never notice him. He wouldn't even be able to torment her. She wasn't scared of him anymore. She'd never know how he really felt. She had Weasley. He'd seen how happy they were together. He didn't have a chance. But no-one would ever know that Draco Malfoy loved Hermione Granger.
