Clove hits the ground, and everything goes numb. Thresh and Katniss run. Cato comes bounding into the scene. Clove opens her eyes slightly and sees a fuzzy tannish thing. She makes out a blur of yellow and blue. She has absolutely no idea who or what he is.
"Where the heck am I, and why does everything hurt?" she wonders.
She can't remember much, but she is able to conclude that she is dying (which is why she is hurting) and that this being has either killed her, or is mourning her. She lets out a small moan to let the being know she's alive. It comes closer and she can see moisture on his face. He is feeling sad. She remembers that crying means sadness. This boy must love her.
"Clove... I'm so sorry..." he says.
Now she's confused. Was he supposed to save her, or did he kill her? She recognizes the voice though. It sounds so very familiar. It makes her heart warm. She knows that she must love him too. Then she stares hard into his piercing blue eyes. She knows his name. It's Cato. Her friend. The one she loves. She strains to hear more.
"Clove? Please say something! Stay with me! I need you!" he cries.
His cries fall on deaf ears. Clove is loosing vision rapidly as well. She looks at him and forces a smile. He kisses her forehead. She whispers his name softly. That is the last movement she can make. She closes her eyes and lets death come to her. She has flashes of her and Cato. She smiles inwardly. Then, cannon booms. The blonde boy, who isn't supposed to have a soul, waits there. He cries and holds her hand until a helicopter comes. He gets up and walks back to his camp, leaving his sanity and heart behind.
