Fiddling about with his suit, Raythor looked nervously at the huge crowd already milling about on the dance floor. Nobility of every background on Meridian was there, from the newly minted heroes of the rebellion (including himself and his friend Vathek) to the long standing older families with old money and titles. It was nothing short of a terrifying mass of people and he was scared, no terrified that his girlfriend would be too intimidated to even show her face.
It was funny really. He had faced down all sorts of dangerous and often terrifying foes fighting both against and with the Guardians. He had stared down enemies that would happily kill him without a second thought. He had climbed out of the abyss that Cedric himself had thrown him down. This should be a stroll down the street really. A walk in the park as they liked to say on Earth. Easy.
"You shouldn't worry," a reassuring voice said to his side and Raythor looked at the voice's owner Vathek. "She'll turn up. I know she will. You should have more faith in her."
"I know she will," Raythor replied, nervously fiddling with his fingers. "I have absolute trust in her."
"Then relax and enjoy the atmosphere. The girl is a hero. The people of Meridian love her and her friends. She has saved countless lives, is a close friend of the Queen herself and," Vathek paused for a moment. "She is head over heels in love with you. I cannot imagine that any power on Earth or Meridian could change that."
Raythor smiled at his friend. He was right of course. But that didn't stop him from worrying.
"It's the Guardians!" someone shouted, pointing to the gate where five beautiful young women stepped through. In the lead was of course their leader Will, looking beautiful in an elegant long blue dress that was decorated with delicate intertwining silver threads. She was soon met by Caleb, who led her gently into the palace. They were followed by Irma in a silky, body hugging black dress that emphasised her curves, hand in hand with her girlfriend Cornelia.
Cornelia's dress was of course elegant. A flowing shoulder less light blue dress, with her long blond hair falling about her shoulders. Raythor could already see her drawing admiring glances from more than one of the men there. He gave them a smile and nodded.
Hay Lin was next, her usual pigtails undone and her hair free glowing. Her dress was a delicate two-piece. A long slit skirt and silver shoulder less top that sparkled as much as she did. Soon she was joined by Aldarn wearing an uncomfortable looking suit.
The she stepped forward and Raythor felt his breath suddenly freeze in his lungs.
He knew that his girlfriend was beautiful. It really shouldn't have come as a surprise when he saw her. And yet…
She was standing there almost timidly wearing a dress of bright gold, covered by an intricate and subtle pattern. Her hair was tied up in braids and her glasses small rectangles that enhanced her features in his eyes. He felt a slight push in his back.
"I think my friend, this is where you step forward and take her hand," Vathek whispered and Raythor nodded. He stepped forward and in a single movement knelt at the feet of his beloved.
"Taranee Cook," he began, sweating nervously as he looked up at her. "Will you marry m-"
He was suddenly cut off as Taranee suddenly placed her mouth over his and passionately kissed him. All around them, onlookers whistled and cheered, but neither of them noticed.
"Does that answer your question?" she asked with a smile and Raythor smiled back, feeling completely stunned. But before he could gather his thoughts, she dove on him once more and kissed him once more.
