Titan's Fall
Shepard had lived a relatively short life, but then his species was always doomed to die before others. If they weren't fighting each other, they were fighting aliens, and now they were being swatted by bugs. Colony after Colony was lost in the battle against the reapers, trillions of lives ended, that was the way things were going to be. And now it was his turn, he knew it, and the army of machines on his planet knew it.
The Reapers had come to Mindoir and they were burning it. And they were letting him watch.
As he stared out at the fields of fire that was once his home and silently let the tears come. He had many memories of the good times in his life on this planet, but bad ones as well. He remembered his first kill, slitting the throat of a Batarian slaver before it could reach his home. He remembered doing unspeakable things when he stowed away on the attack of Torfan.
Butcher, they called him, the Slayer of Batarians. He was a Titan amongst men. But now the true Titans had arrived, and they taunted him with the sight of his home aflame.
Vega and Alenko were already dead. Killed by Harbinger not twenty minutes into the battle. The rest were on other planets, enacting the Plan.
Ah yes, the plan.
There was a saying about the destruction of evil; when destroying evil, ensure your own destruction so as to not become so yourself.
And he had come so close to evil.
Indoctrination was eating at his mind, and he knew it. So the plan was in place, the crucible set up. And soon it would launch.
"SHEPARD, YOU HAVE LOST"
Shepard looked up at the behemoth in front of him and chuckled, "Yes, I have."
"THERE IS NO AMUSEMENT HERE, ONLY DEATH"
"I know," was all the savior of the galaxy said, and he pulled from his suit a detonator.
"WHAT COULD YOU POSSIBLY DO WITH THAT?"
He simply pressed down.
The signal from the detonator traveled through the blackness of space, through the mass relay, to the command chair of Rear Admiral Hackett. Seeing the signal, he depressed the go ahead next to him. The enormous spacecraft next to his ship launched itself through the relay.
Within the craft were many things, most significant were two; an explosive device with enough raw nuclear power, element zero, and unstable compounds mixed together that it would detonate with such force within the sun of the system that it would create solar radiation, winds and an explosion that would destroy the system and vaporize all matter within a sixteen-hundred light year radius. And it carried a signal that would cripple the Reaper energy signature and kill them in the black for enough time so that the ship would reach the sun and do the first thing.
The spacecraft the size of a planet, originally the Geth Dyson Sphere, traveled through the black of space to its target. The catalyst, in its infinite wisdom, had sent the majority of the Reaper invasion to the Attican Traverse, the reputed location of the Crucible. As the Reapers collapse to the ground around him, Shepard looked at the fallen body of the Harbinger.
"So long, and thanks for all the fish," was the last thing he said.
