Warning: Slight spoilers for the last, oh, ten minutes of the movie, Prince Caspian. You have been warned, read ahead at your own risk.
He doesn't know why, but he comes here often- at least once a week. It is not out of convenience, as it is on the outskirts of the city and they no longer use this courtyard for proclamations or any such gatherings. He tells himself it is because they will be leaving this place soon and he feels it is a betrayal of his people. Even as he tells himself this is the reason, his heart protests. He knows he is lying to himself. However, he doesn't believe he is strong enough to admit it, even to himself. It has become a sight familiar to the Narnians and remaining Telmarines, and they no longer stop and stare, but continue about their work in preparation of their move to Cair Paravel. Dr Cornelius has gone ahead with his manuscripts and drawings to help recreate the palace and restore it to its former glory. He's been twice to inspect it and is hopeful they will be able to move in before the winter. Everyone is eager to move away from this place, to start over. Cair Paravel will go a long way towards healing Narnia's wounds. And so would – he shakes the thought out of his head. They will not be coming back this way. Nothing ever happens the same way twice. He stands in silence a few moments more, his eyes taking in the water below him and hills in front of him. Slowly, carefully, he lays his hand on the bark of the twined trees. A lone tear falls silently as he whispers goodbye, dear one.
A world away, a young girl with long brown hair stirs in her sleep before falling deeper into her dreams.
Author's Note: So... I actually ship Caspian/Lucy, but apparently the movie is a very powerful thing. I got home and ended up writing this. I know, it suprised me too. As always, reviews are encouraged and accepted- especially constructive criticism, but please, no flames.
