In this world there are many mysteries; the future, the past, and the largest enigma of all… mushi.
"Mama!"
The cry was heard
throughout the whole village.
Kumo stood over her mother's motionless body crying. "Someone please get a docter!"
Her mother was covered in blue spots. Her complexion was pale, and her breathing was light.
"Kumo, what happened?" yelled a man from the village.
The girl said nothing. Her bright green eyes were full of tears. She ran her fingers nervously through her strange white hair.
"It was coming…" she said crying. "They kept swarming… I tried to tell her… I tried… and as hard as I tried to shoo them away they won't leave! They're stuck to her!"
The village doctor arrived, but couldn't find the problem. The villagers watched as Kumo screamed and pointed at nothing. That was one strange girl. They all knew she looked weird and her father was a foreigner, but they never guessed she was crazy. Maybe it was just stress.
Kumo had her own secrets even if she didn't mean to keep them secret. She could see those little blu blobs going towards her mother. She knew they were why her mother was sick…
She stayed by her mother's side the whole day and helplessly watched as the blobs slowly attached themselves to her mom's legs.
"Stupid blobs why can't you go away…" she muttered replacing the wet towel on her mother's forehead.
She went to the closet and grabbed
the broom. She swatted at everyone of the tiny glowing creatures she
saw.
"Go away! Go away!"
Suddenly she heard the paper door creak. Someone was coming in the house. Kumo rushed to the front of the house and turned her broom on the invader.
"Woah, Woah! What did I do?" a
white haired man asked staring at the broom now in his face. He had
piercing green eyes just like Kumo, and even though he had white hair
he looked to be in his late twenties.
"I'm here to help."
Kumo lowered the broom. "What could you do to help?"
The man didn't answer, but just walked past Kumo. He took one look at the patient and took his pack off his back. Kumo watched as he dug through the box pulling out jars of strange glowing creatures.
"What's that one called?" Kumo asked pointing at one of the jars.
The man looked back at her. Then he picked up the jar and walked over to where she was sitting. He knelt in front of her with the jar. "Only if you can tell me what it looks like."
Kumo smiled. "It's a glowing pink worm…"
The man handed her the jar still smiling. "I'll tell you later. Right now I think I should help your mother."
Kumo stared while he returned to sorting through the box. "Will you be able to help mom?"
The man nodded. "Her case isn't
very bad," he said pulling out a packet of white triangular pills.
"I'm surprised she didn't get sick until now. There aren't
many mushi out here I guess…"
"Mushi?"
"Those glowing things…" he explained. He lifted her mother's head and placed one the pills in her mouth.
"So this is a mushi?"
"Yes…"
"It's
cute!"
