There was something special about the Boy Next Door. That's what Kim had decided to call him, "The Boy Next Door." He was mysterious and an unknown entity to her. She wasn't sure what he was really about. So she decided one day to find out.
Kim Crawford had lived in the house on 42 Lionshead Way ever since she was in her mother's womb. The house was classic and simple with an air of elegance and Kim had always loved it even though sometimes she felt a little bit suffocated inside of it. She had lived in the same town of Seaford, California her whole entire life and sometimes felt as if she needed a change. Sometimes she cursed small town life and wished she lived in a big, bustling city like New York or Chicago. Nothing interesting ever happened in Seaford. That was until the Boy Next Door moved in.
It was a scorching hot summer day in Seaford. Heat stuck to the back of Kim's neck like butter on bread and her thin, bluish T-shirt clung to her like a life preserver. She was trying to finish some reading material from the library. She had always loved books. They transported her in the turn of a page to a different world. A magical world where someone wasn't always peering over her shoulder. In books, she could be a female warrior or whatever she desired rather than just a regular high school girl with big dreams stuck in a small town. Books took her to places she could only dream about.
Lost in her book, she didn't even look up when her brother Jason slammed the door behind him. Jason was always coming in and out during different times of the day and Kim didn't really bother to keep track of his schedule unless it conflicted with hers. Kim loved Jason but lately, he'd been acting weird, hanging out with weird people and always going out late to parties. Kim was worried about Jason but didn't show it because Kim couldn't afford to show weakness.
She did, however, glance up from her book when she heard a truck pull into the driveway next door. The Jennings had just moved and Kim had been anxiously awaiting to meet her new neighbors. Maybe they could bring some fun to the monotony of life in a small town. She ran to the window and peered out from behind the thick, heavy ivory curtains. She saw a flash of brown run out from the car with a skateboard followed by a small girl with fiery red hair wearing a pink tutu and carrying a gigantic teddy bear.
"Janie," a beautiful woman called. "Wait for me!" She lugged a heavy box from the car and headed indoors.
"Well Kim," she thought to herself. "Now is as good a time as any to meet your new neighbors." She quickly glanced at herself in the mirror, checking to make sure her hair looked at least average and that nothing was in her teeth, and headed out. She knocked on the big red oak door of her neighbors' residence and waited a couple seconds before the door was yanked open with exuberance.
"Hi! I'm Janie! What's your name? You're really pretty!" the little girl with the fiery red hair exclaimed. Kim smiled to herself.
"I'm Kim! Thanks, you're really pretty too!" she replied. All of a sudden, the beautiful woman came out to greet her. She had long brown hair and full red lips.
"Hi, I'm Monica Brewer. Nice to meet you!" she said politely.
"Hi, I'm Kim. I live next door. I just wanted to see if you need any help." Kim replied.
"Thank you so much! One second, I'll introduce you to my son. You guys look about the same age. JACK!" she called upstairs. A boy Kim's age came sprinting down the stairs. He was gorgeous. He had longish, luscious brown hair with the most adorable brown eyes that could make a girl's heart melt.
"Hi, I'm Jack." he said. And that was when Kim met the Boy Next Door.
