I Should Have Told You

Hermione arrived at Ron's wake that afternoon. She held back the tears as Ron's mother and little sister, Ginny, embraced her. "Thanks for coming Hermione," Ginny said, sniffling.

Hermione nodded. "I wouldn't miss it."

She entered the room filled with people in black robes. She spotted Professor McGongall, Remus Lupin, a black dog in the corner (known only to a few was actually Sirius Black), and even Professor Dumbledore. She sucked in a deep breath and sat in a chair in the corner. She saw others as they passed by her. There were Ron's brothers. All five of them. Charlie, Bill, Percy, Fred, and George. They all looked completely sick.

"Hermione?" A familiar voice asked.

Hermione looked up to see a familiar face. "Harry!" She cried and hugged him tightly; unable to keep the tears back any longer.

Harry led her over to a couch, "He mentioned you before he went, you know."

Hermione looked at him, stunned. "He did?"

Harry nodded. "Before we went out onto the battle field he told me that if anything happened to him he wanted you to know that he loved you."

Hermione burst fully into tears, "He did?"

Harry put an arm around her shoulder and squeezed it reassuringly. "Yeah, he did."

Hermione tried to compose herself and whispered, "I never told him."

"Told him what?"

"That I loved him." Hermione muttered.

Harry squeezed her shoulder again, "He knew. He really did."

Hermione nodded, "I need to see him."

Harry put a reassuring arm around her waist as he helped her up and across the room, over to Ron's open casket. He had been killed by a simple torture curse. Hermione's knees buckled and Harry tightened his grip on her waist.

"Oh Ron." She murmured. She sniffled again, "I love you." She collapsed into Harry's arms in a fit of tears. Everyone was looking but no one cared.

Harry helped her back over to the couch and Percy brought her a strong cup of tea. She quickly fell asleep on the couch. "What was that?" Harry asked.

Molly Weasley shrugged, "A simple drugging tea. I thought she could use it."

Harry eased out from under Hermione, "Yeah she did."

"What was all that?" Fred asked, from behind his mother.

Harry bit his lip, "Before we went into battle Ron told me to tell Hermione that he loved her if anything should happen to him."

"And you told her." George concluded.

Harry nodded. "And she freaked. She told me that she loved him and she never told him and now she wishes she had."

"I should have told you." Hermione muttered from the couch.

"She must be dreaming." Ginny said, looking at the broken woman on the couch.

"Or Ron's ghost is paying her visit." Charlie offered.

They looked at the sleeping woman on the couch. What this would do to her, known of them could predict. But they did know they needed to put their morning for Ron aside and needed to help Hermione through life.
