I Will Always Love You

Lily Potter awoke on the Halloween morning feeling refreshed and more alive then she had in a long time. She pulled herself out of bed and walked into the kitchen. James was making breakfast and singing to another turn of Warlock Wendell. She stifled a laugh and shook her head. James turned around and scooped her up in one sweep and kissed her, "Well you are finally up beautiful."

Lily laughed out loud this time and kissed him back, "Yeah I figured I might as well get up now. I hadn't expected to see you making breakfast however."

James pretended to be offended and Lily swatted him, "You're not offended so don't pretend to be."

A loud wail came from upstairs and Lily sighed and detangled herself from her husband and hurried up the stairs to her son's room. He lifted little Harry out of his crib. "Hey Harry James. Wanna go see Daddy?"

Harry sniffled and he seemed really scared. Lily's brows furrowed and she hugged her son tightly, "It was just a dream sweetheart. Just a dream. Forget about." She pulled him so that he was face to face with her, "All right?"

Little Harry James Potter nodded and Lily hugged him closely, "Let's go see Daddy." Lily bounded down the stairs and back into the kitchen where she passed Harry into James' arms. "Take him into the living room. I'll finish breakfast."

James shook his head, "No. You play with Harry. I'll make breakfast."

"What is it?" Lily asked, "Usually you prefer to play with Harry and leave me to the kitchen work."

James kissed her cheek, "You worry too much darling."

But by mid-afternoon Lily knew she wasn't worrying too much. Something was up with Harry and James. As soon as Harry went down for a nap he would wake up screaming and James made sure they spent the whole day together.

Of course they always spent the day together but usually doing different things. Harry would play with his toys, Lily would do housework, read, and other things, and James would research, write letters, and a few other things.

But today was different. They spent all morning playing in the living room and all afternoon dressing Harry up into different Halloween costume's with their wands.

James made a dinner of chicken, lobster, shrimp, stuffing, and all sorts of other good stuff. For desert they had pumpkin pie and James made some of his grandmother's wonderful candy corn cookies.

After dinner the three of them huddled into the living room and James and Lily read James a story. It was very late when Lily put Harry to bed. James was standing near the kitchen window looking for something.

"James? What is going on?" Lily asked, hugging her husband.

James pulled back and said, "I will always love you."

"And I will always love you." She replied. She opened her mouth to say something when James cut her off.

"Lily! It's him. Go! Get Harry and Go!"

"What?" She cried, stunned.

James kissed her quickly, "Go. I'll hold him off!"

Lily wanted to argue but her maternal instincts made her dash upstairs and go for Harry. She heard Voldemort's cracking laugh. She grabbed Harry from his crib and was about to dash down the stairs when she heard footsteps on the stairs. She slammed Harry's door closed. Of all the times she could leave her wand where it shouldn't be! She threw open Harry's drawer and pulled out a spare wand that James had purchased a few months back and put Harry by the window.

The door flew open and Lily stuck out her wand. "Stand aside you silly girl!" Voldemort cried.

Lily held her ground, "NEVER."

Voldemort disarmed her before she had a chance to move. Lily threw her body in front of her son's. "Take me instead."

"Move!"

"Take me instead!"

Voldemort positioned his wand at her, "Get out of my way." When Lily didn't move he cried, "Avada Kedavra!"

The End
