Elliot stood at the front door of his house, steeling himself. He had to confess to Kathy; she deserved to know that he had cheated on her. He was still, actually.
It wasn't that easy, though. Naturally, she would be mad, but something about this would make her even angrier than if he had cheated in the 'normal' way. He thought of that trick he had done at the kid's birthday parties with the diet coke and mentos. What he was about to tell Kathy would definitely be adding mentos to the diet coke that was their relationship. If you could even call it that.
He walked in, finding the house blissfully empty except for Kathy. The kids were at their grandma's house, so they wouldn't have to worry.
"Kathy?" He called. She walked into the room.
"Hey Elliot. What's wrong?" He closed his eyes. It was now or never.
"I need to confess something to you. Can we sit down?"
"What is it?" He sighed, but supposed beating around the bush wouldn't do any good.
"Kathy, I've been cheating on you." She didn't look shocked; she just looked angry.
"It was with that bitch partner of yours, wasn't it?" He shook his head.
"No, it wasn't." Now Kathy looked surprised.
"Then who was it?" He looked at the ground. He wasn't ashamed of whom he was with; rather, he didn't want to look into her eyes when he told her.
"I was with… another man." He could tell her eyes had widened. A moment of deafening silence; then-
"Another MAN? REALLY, Elliot?" He nodded.
"You need a fuckin' shrink. GET OUT!" She screamed at him. He almost winced at the hatred in her words.
He didn't argue: he just walked out of the house. There would be time to work it out later, he was sure of it. And maybe he could even introduce his lover to Kathy, eventually. The kids would be slightly more understanding than Kathy, too. Hopefully.
When he got to his car, a slight smile appeared on his face.
"I need a shrink, huh? Yeah, I suppose I do…" He murmured into the air.
With that, he drove to see his lover.
