Summary: When Jesse sees Winnie's grave, he is thrown into despair. However, he receives a letter addressed to him from Winnie… Mostly drabble.
Dearest Jesse,
When you have received this, I will most likely have passed away. However much pain I have caused you, know that I have thought of you every single day of my life, married or otherwise. I constantly think about you and your kind words and beautiful smile. You may be asking yourself, 'Then why did she not drink from the well, to stay with me forever?' The answer is because even as a young girl, I realized how precious life is, and why it is so. And here, as I lie in my bed in old age, I still see it so.
Having the gift of eternal life would be a blessing indeed, but a dreadful curse. I fear, in immortality that my taste for life would grow bitter, and grow dim before my eyes no matter how I try to see it. Most would devour the chance to live for eternity, but I have chosen to live my life and die in due course, to savour each moment, to grow old and see the true beauty of death. Rather than to live and watch the generation of the Earth pass while the wonder and enjoyment of life fades.
I am sorry. Although I realize that no amount of apologies in any way will completely satisfy your sorrow and perhaps anger. But as you continue to live, while my soul flies to the wind and my body decays under the cold, dark earth, do not mourn for me. Rejoice and embrace all you might see and hear, touch, taste and smell.
May your days be fruitful and full of laughter, where it would grow fruitless and desperate for me. But remember, and do not forget those times we had together, our adventure. Also, that no matter where you travel, what you may do, I will always be with you in your heart and there in your memories. I loved you from when I first saw you, and will love you forever, with all my heart.
With Love Everlasting,
Winnie
A/N: An inspiration I had… rather short, yet again. I really need to look at making these one shots longer. And possibly more to the point.
