Everything I Always Never Wanted
This was not the way it was supposed to be. Not even close. And she knew it. Riku Replica, Namine. Chain of Memories. 100-word drabble.
"Don't worry, Namine," he whispered into her hair. "I'll always be here, protecting you."
Her body wracked with another sob as he held her fragile form close. Gently, he kissed the tears from her cheeks, and she hiccupped to keep more from falling. He stared down at her, hollow puppet eyes brimming with emotion.
Her tears fell again, unbidden, and she buried her face in his shirt. Never would she deserve to meet those eyes. She was too cruel. A heartless Nobody.
"Shh, I'm here," Riku repeated, stroking her hair, and she fought down the bile rising in her throat.
Wow, I write things. Amazing. Okay, I'm playing Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories right now -- it just figures that I choose the one game only half the fandom played to fangirl over -- and I figured the world needed some Namine angst. This started out as a fanart idea, but then one night I was trying to do homework but ended up writing this instead. I fine-tuned it until it was exactly one-hundred words and now I'm uploading it. I'm actually working on the companion fanart right now, so that will get linked here or in my profile once I finish inking and coloring it.
There's an explanation for this drabble, but I'm hoping it's pretty self-explanatory as long as you've played Chain of Memories. Oh well, just drop me a review/email if you think I'm totally nuts. ...Don't you hate how drabble author's notes are always longer than the actual thing?
