It's a Monday.
Take 2
"Hey Rai." Genma whispered as he got closer to the monument.
"It's a Monday." He half choked on a sob.
"I was wondering what you're doing up there." Genma stopped for a moment; considered.
"Or down there." He never really thought about that. Genma was usually the one who went on seduction and assassination missions, not Raidou, who was usually on the Information gathering missions or the escorting missions. Not pure, naïve Raidou, who believed in the inherent goodness of everyone, unless they were enemy nins, who he'd just kick their asses. Well, either way, Genma would be with him soon.
"The Hokage assigned me a suicide mission today. They said I was the only one who would have the skills but…" Genma knew he would be the only one who really had no ties to the village enough that he could die and be okay with it. After all…
"The only ones important to me were you and Hayate." And Hayate was dead… killed by a cold by all things. Raidou had helped him through it. But who helped him through Rai's death? Oh yeah… No one.
"I tried, you know. I even took a genin team, to see if I could make attachments worth staying for. Didn't work." He still saw his ex-students sometimes... like when he was in the showers from the all-too-frequent ANBU missions he had been taking to get his mind off of Raidou.
"Today's our anniversary. First time we admitted we had feelings for each other." Genma paused.
"Remember when we would go around freaking people out when we were little by throwing balloons filled with paint at them?" Uchiha Itachi was spattered with pink for DAYS, as they had also out a mild jutsu on the paint so that it couldn't be removed unless the owner was wearing clothes that weren't part of an uniform or had some sort of clan crest, or symbol on it. The paint was attached to the person, not the clothes, and no matter what they wore the paint would follow them. Raidou and Genma had cracked themselves up thinking about it, and although they were chased all around Konoha for it, it was worth it, in their minds.
"Yeah, Itachi-san wasn't very happy with us." And indeed he hadn't been. Itachi had actually shown emotion; rage; and Genma and Raidou still couldn't look at fluffy pink things like cotton candy without screaming. Actually only Genma couldn't, because Raidou was… dead.
"I miss you, you know." Genma was sure that Raidou did know. Raidou knew Genma better then Genma knew Genma, and Genma knew Genma pretty well, but not as well as Genma knew Raidou.
"I think I'm going to be seeing you soon, Rai-chan." Genma had to leave in a few hours and go assassinate some important personage behind enemy nin lines. There was a high chance of success, but a very low one of returning alive.
"I told the Hokage that I would send a summon to tell him the mission was successful, and that he better start looking for another ANBU commander." Genma and Raidou, while working together as co-captains had one of the highest mission success rates in the history of ANBU. Genma alone had a high mission rate also, but the success was more due to not caring about dying then skill.
"So… be seeing you soon?" Genma gave a half wave and turned around. Seeing as today was a Monday, he knew that Kakashi would be coming soon to pay his respects to the dead. He paused, the moment halted in the stream of life.
"Bye, Rai. Love you."
