Ch. 1 - Tohru's Concern
Tohru glanced up from her soapy hands, looking out through the window that lied over the kitchen sink. She sighed as she looked over the serene forest landscape that took its home around the Sohma house. She could hear Kyou-san in the next room arguing with Yuki-san about something or another. They were always fighting, but Tohru accepted it as a way for Yuki and Kyou to form a friendship. Even if it was a pretty bad friendship. She looked over her shoulder as he heard the rice-paper door slam in the next room and waited with a smile as Kyou came storming into the kitchen with a frustrated look on his face. "I can't believe that damn rat! Telling me what to do! I ought to ring that rat's neck." Kyou looked over at Tohru-san. He admired her innocent beauty as she smiled, his anger and heart seemed to settle into a peaceful trance as soon as he saw her.
"Oh Kyou.." Tohru stammered a bit as she usually did, "I was wondering what you want for breakfast." Tohru turned back to her sink of soapy dishes and returned to scrubbing the rice and other various pieces of food from their glossy surface. "Breakfast?.." He smirked that well-known bad boy smirk of his as he walked over to Tohru and leaned against the sink where she was washing dishes. "Eh, I guess you can make a couple of those cat-shaped onigiri you made a while back, and some miso soup. But I don't want any of those damn leeks. I hate leeks as much as I hate that damn rat and his smug little smile." His cheeks flushed as his anger quickly returned. Tohru turned to him quickly, knowing if she didn't calm him down he'd most likely go run his mouth off to Yuki-san again and get knocked out, and she really didn't feel like dragging Kyou-san up the stairs again.
"Kyou-san, I was thinking…" She hesitated for a moment, but before she could finish Kyou spoke up for her, "Well spit it out already!" Tohru looked down at the ground quickly, she hated when Kyou vented his anger on her. "I-I'm sorry Kyou-san. What I was trying to say is well.. I was wondering if you would come up to my room later, I need to talk to about something important." Kyou looked over Tohru's face trying to find some hint as to what she wanted to talk to him about. He calmed himself down and lowered his voice as he replied, "Alright Tohru… umm did I upset you? I'm sorry, I just get so angry sometimes I-I don't know what to do, I-" but before Kyou could utter the next sentence Tohru took his hand in hers and smiled, her understanding eyes speaking far more than she could with her own tongue. "Its ok Kyou-san." Kyou's insides seemed to drop down to his feet while his heart raced up into his throat. His cheeks blushed a bright crimson as the blood rushed up to his face burning his neck and ears. Before he could stop it POOF orange smoke filled the kitchen and there in Kyou's clothes stood his cat-self, an orange tabby.
