Smiles
By Yakushi Kabuto
Summary: Why would he, a freshman, bent into beating his father in playing tennis, be interested in seeing his certain senpai's lips twitch? TezukaxRyoma
Smiles were never meant to be done. Smiles were never smiles. They were just an upward twitch of one's lips, nothing more, nothing less. So why would he, a first year, bent to beating his father, and being the best he could ever be in playing tennis, be interested in seeing his certain senpai's lips twitch (upward)? He doesn't get it. Was it because he never smiled or he was just really interested in seeing him smile? So now you'd be asking, when did this start? Why was Ryoma Echizen, a tennis player, first year in Seigaku and a member of the Seigaku Tennis team, so interested in seeing the current team captain's smile? It all started with his smirk! (AN: I know that this would be more considered as a twitch of one's lips but what the heck, with Tezuka, what's the difference?)
It happened during training, Ryoma just finished a game with Fuji (which he lost by the way) and Tezuka was watching Momoshiro and Inui train. Ryoma happened to glance at Tezuka's face, and suddenly, he saw Tezuka smirk. He did this all the time when he found something interesting, or he was proud of someone. And that was when Ryoma became entranced, by his senpai's smirk. He began to have blurry images of his senpai, twitching his lips even more so upwards. He knew that he would never be able to rest if he didn't see his senpai's smile. That's also the reason why Ryoma Echizen, right after training was stalking his senpai while he walked home.
Ryoma Echizen had not gone unnoticed by his senpai. Tezuka knew that Echizen was there, following him. But he couldn't concoct the reason he was following him. So when they passed by a road where no one else was walking, he confronted him.
"Ryoma, I know you're there," he said, loud enough for Ryoma to hear at the other side of the road.
Ryoma crossed the street, his head bowed with shame, but he didn't show it to Tezuka, he would die first before showing to someone that he's ashamed. He stopped just behind Tezuka.
"Why are you following me?" Tezuka asked.
"Who says that I'm following you?" Ryoma said, looking at Tezuka.
Tezuka smirked, "Well, I never saw you go through this route before and certainly you don't have any relatives living in this erea."
"Who says I'm here to see a relative?" Ryoma said, walking past Tezuka. "I'm here for a group project, a classmate of mine live near here."
"Why didn't you leave with him when your class ended?" Tezuka asked.
"I have training remember?" Ryoma said.
Tezuka's smirked turned into a smile. You're really something Ryoma Echizen, I can't seem to figure you out… He walks towards Ryoma and matches his pace with Ryoma's, his smile still on his face. And that was when Ryoma looked at him, expecting a smirk on his face, but saw a smile instead. He also began to smile.
Ryoma stopped abruptly. Tezuka noticed that Ryoma was no longer walking beside him stopped and looked behind.
"I just remembered," Ryoma said, his face covered by his cap's shadows. "My group mate cancelled our meeting the last minute." He turned away and began tracing back his steps.
Tezuka's smile widened. He turned and began to continue his walk back home when suddenly, he said, "I enjoyed your company Ryoma," and with that, he disappeared around a corner.
Ryoma smiled as his imagination took the better of him. He started to see those lips up close and personal, also, he began to wonder, what would it be like to press his own lips on his senpai's? And with that thought in mind, he began his journey home.
