I was a few yards away when I heard the explosion.

The trembling ground, which had been shaking for quite some time, had suddenly given way beneath me.

I turned around, and almost fell over.

Mount St. Helens was smoking.

As I watched with horrified eyes, a plume of white-grey smoke rose up from its top, then –

BOOM!

Red hot lava spewed from its crater, shooting up into the air; smoke billowed out into the sky in great clouds of dust.

The ground shook again, and a tremor seemed to go through the mountain. Rocks and pieces of debris burst up, out, and into the clouds. I thought I could hear people screaming.

Red lava was flowing down the sides of the mountain, engulfing everything in its path – the grass, the rocks, the trees, houses, everything.

And it was coming towards me.

I dropped Hephaestus' metal disk in sheer terror, then turned and ran for all I was worth.

Away, away, away. That was the only thought in my mind.

I couldn't believe I hadn't seen it sooner.

I ran and ran and ran, my goal to only be away, farther away. Far away.

It was only when I stumbled over a rock that I thought of it.

Percy.

Percy had been in that volcano.

He had been inside when the eruption began.

The lava, the fire, the rocks, the smoke -

There was no way he could have survived.

I told myself that he could still be alive, that he was still alive -

No.

He was gone.

Percy.

Seaweed Brain.

Percy.

My Percy.

My best friend.

Dead.

Lost.

Gone.

Forever.

A/N: Hello to the world of Percy Jackson - I've missed you. :) Personally, I don't think this oneshot is my best; however, I got this idea and I just had to put it up. So here you go. Put the words MOUNT ST. HELENS in your review if you read this Author's Note. Just a tiny little experiment. :)

(By the way, I apologize for it being so short.)
