"That's um..." Miles said as Maya walked in. "That dress is…wow."
Zoë knew Mayas type, she knew she only bought the dress for the dinner and would return it afterwards. It was obvious, and such an old trick that thankfully, Zoë never had to use. But it made her even more mad, that she was doing it to steal Miles from Zoë. It was obvious the way she acted all innocent, like she hated him. But Zoë knew that wasn't the case. She couldn't let this go on any longer. Maya couldn't return the dress if it was stained… Zoë took a short sip of her red drink before spilling the rest on Maya's dress.
"Oops, sorry. Such a klutz." Zoë said obviously not meaning it.
Maya deserved it. Zoë was tired of Maya always looking innocent, just because Zoë was honest and Maya was more subtle about the tricks she didn't realise she was playing.
Maya gasped as her, always savior, Tristan stood up and demanded they had to go to the bathroom,
"You're something else." Tristan said as they walked away.
Zoë, feeling a bit better with herself, turned her head and smiled at Miles, who had a disgusted look on his face.
"We need to talk, now." Miles said as he stood up.
Zoë followed him outside, knowing he was going to end it with her, although she hoped it wasn't true, he was all she had.
Miles stared her down for a few seconds before Zoë broke the silence, getting choked up.
"It's obvious you were just using me to get Maya, you didn't have to hurt me and string me along if you never liked me."
"That's not it Zoë. I did like you, really, I did. I just don't like the way you're treating Maya. You're acting like..."
"Jealous?" Zoë interrupted. "Of course I'm jealous! All Maya's done is try to steal you from me!"
"She's definitely not… Maya hates me."
"Don't be so stupid Miles. That's all part of it. She's just acting like she hates you to get your attention." A few tears went down Zoë's face, not wanting to lose Miles like she's lost everything else. "Miles, I'm sorry. This sounds so pathetic but you're all I have."
"You're gonna be fine, Zoë. I'm just, done." Miles walked back into the restaurant.
Zoë stood outside for a few more seconds to try and compose herself, then walked back in where she saw Miles had rejoined Maya and Tristan, telling Maya to watch her back. Zoë sat alone at the end of the table, remembering she was wearing makeup, that was probably all smudged. She stared at Maya, until Maya noticed, still looking innocent, like she wasn't at fault for anything. But at that moment, Zoë didn't know whether she had to ruin Maya, or kill her with kindness.
