Disclaimer: I don't own Inuyasha or any of the characters mentioned in this piece of fiction.
Naraku was defeated. He was a full fledged demon with nearly unequaled power and was in full control of himself. He had taken Tetsigua to a new level of power completely mastering the sword. His brother showed him respect and even thought he was a hero. Best of all Kagome was his mate. She had given up her time and come to live with him. He had everything he ever wanted, and yet the world never seemed so bleak.
He sighed turning his back on the star filled sky, entering the hut that had built for his love. Fifty years had passed since the day he and Kagome had met. Besides the blue stripes that adorned his face and other parts of his body, the longer hair and couple inches of greater height he hadn't changed much.
He looked at the women on the mat. Hard to believe this fragile, wrinkled being was once that clumsy, beautiful spitfire that emerged from a world five hundred years in the future. Half a century seemed like a blink of an eye. Time seemed to stand still for him and yet for her and the rest of his old group seemed only to speed up.
He touched her cheek with his finger tips caressing it lovingly. Of all the immense power he possessed he couldn't make time stand still.
"Kagome" he whispered. Her cheek was no longer warm and inviting. Cold and clammy, sickness marred her scent.
She cracked her eyes open at his voice smiling weakly.
His heart warmed. Despite what time had done to the rest of her body its aging touch had failed to affect her eyes. They were the same brilliant innocent blue that they had been half a century ago.
"Inuyasha?" she was confused at his soulful look.
Inuyasha carefully lifted her out of the bedding. She was so weak now it was like holding a baby, the slightest bit of pressure and she would break.
He held her close. She melted into his embrace. Her grey hair contrasting with the fire rat. Kagome clung to him tight as his head buried into her shoulder. Her yukata soon became damp.
She rubbed his back soothingly. "Sssh. It will be alright."
"Kagome please don't leave me."
Kagome felt the tears begin to flow from her eyes. She pulled back and Inuyasha looked at her displaying the anguish inside him.
"Inuyasha promise me when I leave you won't follow me."
"Kagome⦠I"
"Promise me Inuyasha that when I'm gone you won't waste away. Promise me that you'll live a happy life. Promise me that you'll have that family that we could never have." She said it with the fierceness that stayed with her over the years.
"I can't Kagome."
"Promise me Inuyasha". Tears were shining on her face and in his eyes. They stared at each other neither wanting to give in. "it's my last wish."
Inuyasha stared down at the ground.
"Please,"
With great difficulty he said:"I promise"
They kissed for the last time pouring their passion, love, and fear into one kiss.
There they sat two lovers in each other's arms.
An hour passed and the smell of death clung to her scent. Inuyasha hugged her tighter.
Two hours passed and her heart slowed. Tears ran freely down his cheeks.
Sun rise came and her breathing stopped. Inuyasha howled.
How was that?
