Surprise

What a week it had been, Eddie thought as she trudged up the stairs. Their first week engaged, and already they had argued about how to pursue their relationship. Not to mention the fact her future father-in-law was mad at her husband and the feeling was mutual. She had nearly died in a fire. And Jamie had told her that they still needed to keep the relationship secret. She shifted her groceries to her left hand as she fished for her keys. It was late and she knew that she was getting hangry, not a good combination if she were to run into Jamie. Good thing he was at Danny's playing basketball. She found the keys and put them into the lock probably with more force than was necessary. The door swung open with a creak and the groceries hit the floor.

Jamie stood in the center of the living room, which was completely void of furniture except for a circle of candles, with a huge bouquet of roses in his hand. Eddie walked slowly into the room. Jamie was wearing that suit that Eddie loved and the grin that made her weak all over.

Eddie cautiously walked closer to Jamie and smiled. Her eyes were already filling with tears, and her nose was starting to run. Jamie handed her the roses with one hand and extended his other hand taking hers into his. He came down on his knee. "Oh come on we already did this Reagan," Eddie managed to choke out while furiously wiping at the fluids that refused to quit coming from her eyes and nose.

"Just bear with me okay Janko?" Jamie took both of her hands. Eddie smiled and nodded.

"Edit Marie Janko, I know I already asked you to marry me, but we had decided to keep it private. And so I hadn't given you the ring. So I have two questions for you now. First will you not be my partner?" Eddie frowned slightly, curious as to where he was going with this. "But instead will you be my wife and fiancee' and wear this ring as a token of our engagement?" Jamie grinned as he brought out a small black box in from his pocket. He opened it, and Eddie gasped. It was a beautiful platinum and diamond ring. Eddie smiled and nodded vigorously. Then she stopped, "Wait, um, I guess I have two questions to answer, first yes I will not be your partner on the job. And," she choked out through the tears, "yes I will wear this ring." Jamie stood and carefully placed the ring on her finger. Then they embraced.

"I love you Jamie."

"I love you Eddie."

Jamie pulled back, and glanced over towards the doorway, "Um, not to change the subject, but were there eggs in those grocery bags?" Eddie's eyes shot open and she gasped as she raced over to clean up the mess.

Jamie just laughed and grabbed the paper towels. "Life is certainly not going to be boring with you is it Janko?"
