Bella put the phone to her ear. He was going to apologize, she thought. He wanted her back. "Hello?" Her voice was shaky and uneven, a result of the recent face-kissing events that just happened.
"Alice saw you. May I ask, Bella, what exactly you think your doing in bed with a mutt?"
Bella couldn't believe the crazy accusation he had just made. Did he just ask her if they had intercourse? Was he being serious? She almost laughed.
"You have GOT to be kidding me Edward. Your unbelievable. I was sleeping, he was there. So is that why you called, to accuse me of .. that? " She heard shallow, quick breathing on the other end.
"No. Its actually quite .. serious. Im coming to pick you up, you can't hear this over the phone." The dial tone sounded before she could reply.
Still in Jacobs clothing, she waited by the door for the volvo.
"I don't understand why you would go back to him, Bella. Whats wrong with here?"
The hope and frustration mixed in his eyes, creating a murky yet sexy tint.
"Im not 'going back' anywhere." She said, doing air parentheses. "He said it was a serious matter. Edwards not exactly the biggest jokester in the world.. so I know its serious. I have to go see what it is." She saw headlights and looked into the night sky, the car had to be parked at least ten feet away. Emmett stuck his face out of the window. "CANT REALLY GO.. ANY FURTHER.. WITHOUT HURLING! WE BROUGHT PERFUME!" He waved a chanel 5 bottle in the air.
"I guess i have to go, jacob. I'll be back soon, i promise." She hugged him tightly, taking in the warmness she wouldn't feel for a while. She almost cried.
"I hope your doing the right thing Bells. Bye." She strode off, tears in her eyes.
By the time she got in the volvo, there was at least a can and a half of air freshener sprayed. It made her throat sting. There was silence on the way there, except for Edwards glancing into the mirror and looking at her. She walked into the Cullen house, where they had prepared food for her. By the look on their faces, she suddenly wasn't hungry. She sat on the huge, plush couch. Anxiety washed over her like a tide on the beach.
"So.. what is it?"
Carlisle strode into the room. He handed Bella a glass of wine. She sipped it, but didn't taste it.
"I know you and Edward have had your differences, but now more than ever we need you two to work it out."
Alice danced around the love sofa before taking a seat on Jaspers lap, who looked strained with all of the emotion. "What if," She said, glaring at Bella, "What if my brother doesn't want the homewrecker?" Edward stood angrily, looking at Alice. His eyes turned from a golden hue to more of a dark, crisp brown. It was frightening.
"ENOUGH." Carlisle said. "If this is the immaturity that will be shown during battle, were in for it."
"Battle?" Bella said. "BATTLE?" The word became clearer to her the second time.
Carlisle placed a hand on her shoulder. "It seems we have to get you to safety, my dear. Victoria is back."
