Paper Hearts

He sits on the edge of the bed and she stands in between his knees. Her small hands capture his larger ones, and she smiles as she presses something into his palm. It is a sheet of pink paper, folded intricately into a heart.

"We don't have them, so I thought I'd make you one," she explains. Seeing her beaming, looking so utterly happy, he can't help but smile back.

"I have a heart," he says. He takes her tiny hands in his, and he holds her palms against his chest. Then, he places one of his hands on her chest, and she breaks one of hers free to cover it.

"You are my heart."
