They are everything to each other. Colleagues, friends, lovers. Their relationship is deeper than either would have at first expected, but in the end was inevitable. What else could have happened when you spend so long with each other, when you can tell all your secrets, fears, hopes and dreams to the other knowing they will understand. And it's wonderful, that kinship, that closeness. Neither could every imagine being with anyone else. Neither would want to be. If they can't have each other they don't want anyone. But they do have each other, and they're more than happy about that.

Every time she sends Nel on a mission, Clair can't help but wish she didn't have to. Of course she knows that it's for the good of the land but she would much prefer to know that her best friend and lover is at home, safe with her. Every day as she goes about her duties her heart is far away, with Nel wherever she may be.
She thinks that she has loved Nel, on some level, since the day they first met. She knows that they are made for each other and that therefore their love was inevitable.

No matter where her job takes her, Nel can't help that sometimes not all of her concentration is on the task at hand. Her thoughts are with the woman she loves more than anything in the world. It breaks her heart every time she has to leave Clair but when she returns home the feeling of euphoria and happiness almost make up for it. And Clair's smiling face, that which she would do anything for. When she thinks about it she knows that this would inevitability happen since they fit together perfectly like two pieces of the same puzzle.
