He's gone. He is really gone. That is all that ran through Light's mind as he stared up at the ceiling in the darkness. He smiled triumphantly to himself; he was so close to his goal he could almost taste it, with L out of the way what could stop him now?
Light sighed contently and closed eyes, relaxing his muscles and sinking deeper into his bed. He laid there sleeplessly for what felt like hours. With a short huff he sat up in frustration. He wasn't exactly one to have trouble sleeping.
A small twinge of emptiness formed in the pit of Light's stomach. He began to reminisce about the nights he spent with L. The warmth, the soft breathing of another being, the comfort that came with it, he missed it… NO! I can't think like this! I'm glad he is gone… he defied Kira, he stood in the way of the creation of my new world!
Light grabbed the sides of his head, his body quaked with anger towered himself and resentment towards L. He was disgusted with the fact that he could let one man affect him so greatly. He lowered his hands from his head and knotted his sheets in his fists, clenching them so tight he thought his skin covering his knuckles would tear.
Even before Light picked up the Death Note he had never really let anyone get close to him. Even his own family never actually understood him; they simply were not on the same intellectual level. He always felt alone. No, he was alone; no matter how many people he surrounded himself with he would always be alone.
A single wet droplet tricked down Light's cheek, followed by several more. He is dead, because of me. He is gone. Light let out a shaky breath through his clenched teeth. He lost has chance to not be alone, his chance to finally have someone, an actual friend. L was his chance.
"I had to do it," Light whispered to himself, tears now streaming down his face, his trembling now uncontrollable. He felt as if he was falling into a pit of his own sorrow. "Sacrifices must be made for justice. I am sorry, L."
Author's Note: This is my first time, so please review. I want as much feedback as possible, good or bad! I do not own Death Note.
