Hello Lovelies!
This is a oneshot based on my OC, Blaire. This may turn out to be a series, I don't know. It depends on how busy I am. She's in a story of mine that has been in the works for nearly a year now but hasn't been published.
Blaire and Conner are in an established relationship in this story, because our dear clone needs a bit of love in his life. And that is all that's really necessary for this chapter. There's pictures and stuff about her on my tumblr and deviantart which are under the same username, tanyasm10. And a link to a drawing of this scene is on my bio, so check it out.
Enjoy :)
Conner tugged his collar in irritation as he looked about. All around him people were chatting and having a good time. The soft sounds of the string quartet playing in the background was punctuated by the occasional clinking of champagne glasses and laughter.
His eyebrows wrinkled.
This was definitely not his scene.
In all honesty he wanted to be back at Mount Justice sparring or playfully wrestling with wolf. Hell, he'd even rather be in Wally's company than this.
A week ago, Batman had notified the team of a group of highly wanted criminals doing a shady deal under the guise of an elaborate party. He had sent Blaire and Conner undercover to investigate while Robin was off doing some high tech mumbo jumbo downstairs. Their job was to scope out the crowd and gather information about who was involved. Batman had estimated that it consisted of at least ten people.
"Penny for your thoughts?"
A voice snapped him out if his reverie and he glanced down at the brown eyed girl that had accompanied him. Her short white hair was styled for the occasion and she was donned in a light blue evening gown and a pair of heels which made her now only about a few inches or so shorter than him.
"This is stupid."
She frowned slightly.
"What is?"
He groaned in frustration. "This whole thing. The party, this monkey suit..." Again he tugged at the collar as if the piece of clothing offended him. "The sooner I get out of here the better."
Blaire clicked her tongue on the hard pallette of her mouth as she looked at the blue eyed boy thoughtfully. Gently she adjusted his bow tie and said, "Dance with me."
"What?"
She rolled her eyes and grabbed his hand before joining the other couples that were dancing in the middle of the room. Then she placed his hands on her hips and put her own on his shoulder, all before he could protest which he would have before she placed and finger on his lips, effectively shutting him up.
Eventually they fell into a steady rhythm. Conner was slightly awkward at first, not having danced often and he only just managed to not step on Blaire's feet on several occasions. Awkward dancing aside, the girl was no less than content as she danced with him.
"This is stupid," he repeated under his breath.
"With that kind of attitude, you'll definitely blow our cover," she said, though a smile graced her lips. "At least - you know - PRETEND to have fun."
Conner gave her a deadpan expression and she couldn't help rolling her eyes. "Try...I don't know...smiling."
With a heavy eyeroll of his own, Conner conceded and tried to smile but it looked more like a grimace than anything so she quickly told him in the gentlest way that maybe smiling wasn't such a good idea after all.
Deciding that maybe convincing Conner that this event wasn't all bad was a bust, Blaire tried something different and placed her head on his chest, just beneath his chin thinking that maybe more physical contact would help him.
"What're you-"
"You think too much," she said. "Just enjoy this moment."
It took a while but she felt him relax under her and tighten his grip around her ever so slightly.
"Better?"
He didn't respond but Blaire decided that was his way of saying yes and she couldn't help the soft smile from forming on her face once more.
"I still think this is stupid," he said after a while and Blaire only hummed in response. Although he had to admit, even if it was only to himself, that maybe he was beginning to not hate it as much as he used to. Blaire's presence made it a lot more tolerable.
Dare he say it, he was actually beginning to enjoy himself.
And as a result the corner of his mouth tweaked just barely upwards.
