This is my newest fic in my series that began with Life With The Halliwells, and continued with Second Generation. Now, A Family Broken is a fic told through Melinda's eyes. Set three months after the end of Second Generation.
A Family Broken
Messed Up
"Hey Melinda!" my best friend Kate called as I walked down the hall at school. I spun around and Kate came flying at me.
"What?" I asked.
"It's Miranda!" she said hurriedly, "She passed out in class!"
"What? Who told you that?!?!"
"I just saw Jonah and he was raving about this girl that passed out in class. I asked him who it was and he said it was Miranda." Jonah was her little brother who was in Miranda's class.
"Oh good grief," I muttered, and spun around and ran down to the office.
I saw Mrs. Kinuch, the secretary peeking in the door of the medical room. "Is she ok?" I asked. Mrs. Kinuch nodded and opened the door so I could go in.
"It's me," I said softly. She lifted her head up. I sat down on the chair beside the bed.
"I fainted," she whispered. Lying on the bed she was so small and thin.
Suddenly something clicked. She hadn't been eating a lot lately, not anything for breakfast other than orange juice. "What was the last thing you ate?" I asked softly.
"I had a bit of orange juice for breakfast..." I she said.
"What did you eat yesterday?" I asked her.
"Um... I had apple juice yesterday for breakfast, and then a bit of rice and some broccoli for dinner. Chichi ate the piece of steak." She said. Chichi was the puppy we'd gotten about 2 months ago.
"Ok," I said, suddenly very worried, "Miranda, how has dance been going?" I asked out of curiosity.
"Really good!" her eyes lit up, "Ever since I got skinnier, the seniors have paid more attention to me!" she said excitedly, "And I'm even the understudy for the Genie in our production of Aladdin now that I fit into Katrina's costume!"
"Is that what this is about?" I asked.
"What?"
"You haven't been eating, you're getting really skinny, and now you've passed out in class. You wanted to be the Genie."
"Yeah..." she said. I leaned over and gave her a hug.
"It'll be ok. I'll be right back."
I went down the hall into the counsellor's office and knocked on the door. The kind faced Mrs. Samara answered the door.
"Melinda!" she said kindly, "How may I help you?" she asked.
"I wanted to talk to you about my little sister." I said.
"Just a moment." She said. She shut the door slightly, and talked to someone. She opened the door again. "Come on in," she smiled.
Sitting in the chair was Melissa.
"What are YOU doing here?" I asked her.
"Melinda, you can't tell mom!" she said, a scared look on her face.
"Tell mom what?" I asked confused.
"Tell mom that...that..." she muttered something.
"That what?"
"I think I'm pregnant." She said.
I hope you liked it! I'll write more soon. Review please!
