Prologue
Because she has a lot on her plate, and also a lot of stories herself to post, I'm going to post this story from now. I've gotten permission from her to do so. Also, I wanted to say, RIP NIPSEY HUSSLE.
Broken Clocks - SZA
With her usual tired, grumpy manner, Amy trudged through the school hallways. She slept in on her first day back from Christmas holidays, and had gotten herself ready for school as quickly as she could. She was lucky that she didn't show up late; she would've killed for just another day. Rubbing the sleep out of her jade, green eyes, she looked out for her two sisters. Rouge and Cream had left earlier and seemed to have forgotten about their sister, much to the pink hedgehog's annoyance. She couldn't seem to find them anywhere, and all Amy could think about was how she was going to make her sisters pay for leaving her behind once she found them.
"So you finally got up, huh?"
The pink hedgehog turned around to find a curvy, white bat and short peach-coloured rabbit leaning against their lockers.. She walked up to them; her eyebrows furrowed and her arms crossed.
"Why did you two leave me at home?" Amy asked, demanding an explanation.
Rouge chuckled. "Settle down, sweetie. We tried to wake you up about a million times, but you just kept snoring. We let you sleep another hour and made that old alarm clock wake you up then. Looks like it worked," she explained.
The pink hedgehog flushed in embarrassment. "Sorry," she mumbled.
"It's ok Amy! We were glad to give you a bit more sleep anyway!" Cream reassured with a smile. Rouge nodded in agreement, which rendered a smile on Amy's face.
At that, the three girls turned to see a tan lynx squealing to her friend. "Team Chaos are coming to our school!" she yelled, a little too loudly, just enough for the three sisters to hear.
"Ugh, what is so interesting about Team Chaos?" said Rouge with an eye roll. "They're not even that good-looking, and their music is so basic."
Deciding to get out her stuff for first period, Amy went over to her locker and pulled out her math book. "I know, right? They probably think that they're too cool for everyone and that they can get all the girls. I don't get why their fans are that crazy over them," she said, agreeing with her older sister.
At that, Cream was just about to say something, but she couldn't help but notice a certain group of girls out of the corner of her eyes. "Speaking of rabid fangirls," she said with vitriolic.
Rouge and Amy noticed who she was talking about and glared at them as they walked past. These three girls were really popular. Fiona Fox, Julie-Su the Echidna and Sally Acorn.
"How is your day Pinky? Been stealing lately?" Fiona mocked with a broad grin on her face.
"Just because I don't have parents, doesn't mean I steal," Amy retorted with a glare.
Fiona just laughed as she looked at them. Sally and Julie copied her action, but with a slight reluctance. Sally and Julie have been Fiona's friend for a very long time, but both were slowly questioning the toxicity of their friendship.
"You are so poor, how can you afford clothes?" Fiona taunted.
"Maybe it's because I hold two jobs!" Amy yelled. At that, Cream and Rouge went to grab by her arms to preventing her from hitting Fiona. "Get lost!"
"Team Chaos will be our boyfriends when they get here. What will they think of you three?" Sally boasted.
"We don't like them. Their music is the worst thing I've ever heard. Get out of our way, squirrel!" Cream yelled.
"I am not a squirrel! I am a chipmunk!" Sally said angrily.
Fiona snapped her fingers to signal her friends that they were leaving. They sauntered off, much to the sisters' relief. Rouge's hands rested on her hip as she blew her hair out of her face. "Snobs, thinking they own everything they see," she said in annoyance.
"Talk about cliche, too," Amy scoffed. Then, she turned to Cream with a wide grin. "I didn't see that in you though, Cream!" she said with slight shock.
"Yeah! That was a good one!" Rouge complimented, giving the rabbit a pat on the back.
Cream blushed at the two. "Aw, well, I learn from the best!" she replied.
At that, the school bell rang, signalling that classes were about to start. They grabbed their math books, and went off to their math class; the first two hours of the day being the only periods they have together. Once they got there, they sat at the back of the class. The reason why was because the others didn't wanna be with the "poor kids".
Amy, Rouge and Cream live alone. When Cream was born, Amy and Rouge were adopted by Cream's mother Vanilla, both a little older than Cream. Once Cream was 8, however, Vanilla sadly passed away from cancer.
Now the three had to fend for themselves. While Amy worked as a waitress at a café, and later cleaning the hospital wards, Rouge was out stealing food and other necessities from the stores. Cream used to help out at the Chao Kindergarten over the holidays, but hasn't since because of school. It was a hard life indeed.
But they had to stick together. They couldn't afford for social services to find out. They refused to be separated; they loved each other too much and their bond was unbreakable.
"I hate my life," Amy muttered as the teacher told the class to work in their math books for the day. "I want to meet someone special." Amy has always dreamed of meeting her guy that would love her the way she loved him. But she felt that day would never come since no one would want to be with a poor girl.
Cream, however, was curious when it came to love. She wondered what it was like to love someone. The feeling felt so foreign to her; her being so innocent to what was really out there. She was the youngest of all her sisters, but since she was born earlier in the year, she was put up a class, allowing her to be with her two older sisters.
But Rouge couldn't really care. She didn't have the time for love. Although she could admit that the premise of falling in love seemed appealing, she had more important things to think about. Her and her sisters were lucky to be alive and healthy and she had to make sure it stayed that way. She had no time to be obsessing over someone.
They snapped out of their thoughts when the school bell went off, which meant next period. Luckily for them, they have a free period.
"Finally," cheered Cream "Let's go to the hall!"
They all made a sprint to the school hall, which the music teacher allows them to use. They always hang out there to get away from the insults that people would give them.
"I hate being poor," Amy groaned. "I'm glad that the school is helping us pay for our bills."
"Me too. If Mama was here, then we wouldn't need anyone's help. We could live in a nice house, pay for our own bills and not have to worry about jobs," Cream said sadly.
"Don't worry ladies, something will turn up…someday," Rouge whispered.
The sooner, the better.
