Prologue
The night lit up as lightning streaked through the sky, and thunder shook the forest. The wind howled through the trees as the rain fell in sheets and in the middle of it all, stood a dark cabin. Through the wind and rain, a light could be seen coming up the trail to the cabin as a cloaked figure made their way through the storm. Nokomi pushed her way through the rain and wind, stumbling several times as she made her way up the slippery hill.
"Turtleduck feathers, this storm came out of nowhere," muttered Nokomi to herself as she was knocked off blance by a strong gust of wind.
Once the woman was safe inside the cabin and there was a fire going in the fireplace, she surveyed the cabin. Nokomi found two days' worth of food, clothes and other important items she would need for this mission, like a small mirror, a pair of scissors and a brush.
After a dinner of simple rice porridge, the woman sat down in one of the chairs in front of the fire with the mirror, scissors and brush. Propping the mirror against a stack of books on the table, Nokomi stared at her reflection. The reddish tint in her hair stood out prominently in the firelight. Slowly taking down her braids, Nokomi thought about her options. She would have to have much shorter hair than her current length, which fell to the middle of her back.
She fiddled with her hair until she finally had an idea in her head. Nokomi, then, took the scissors in hand and began the first tentative cuts. Eventually, she was able to style her hair so that the hair in the back fell just above her shoulders with bangs that fell just above her eyes. The sides of her hair were tapered, framing her face.
Not bad, she thought as she fluffed it out and checked for missed strands. Once satisfied with her new hairstyle, Nokomi turned her attention to the files that were in her bag.
The woman flipped through the pages, going over some of the details of the mission. She would have an apartment in Dragon Flats borough, a rumored hot bed of Equalist activity.
"I'll have to watch out for triad members though," muttered Nokomi before she flipped to the next page. She would have to come up with her alias and find a job for extra cover on her own. There would be no backup if she needed it. She would be alone. It was going to be a long mission. Nokomi sighed, stood up and stretched, before heading off to bed. Outside the storm continued to rage on into the night but it could not compare to the storm that was brewing in Republic City.
