Ben tapped Cally on the shoulder as the team made their way out of the girls bedroom to get ready for their graduation ceremony.
"Can I talk to you for a second?" He asked her.
"Course you can. We'd better be quick though, we have to change into our gowns before the ceremony."
"Sure, this won't take a minute." He grabbed her hand and led her along to an alcove by one of the windows, the same one he'd led her to when he asked her to be his date to the graduation ball.
"Here we are again, I guess." Cally said, taking in her surroundings.
"Yeah, I guess." Ben sighed. "Can I ask you something?"
"Sure, fire away."
"When you asked me to the ball, what were you expecting?"
"Well, I kinda didn't expect you to say yes at all, but when you did I thought you'd only be up for one night. Of dancing, that is." She blushed slightly, as Ben grinned at her unfortunate choice of words.
"OK, possible double entendrés aside, what did you want?" He rephrased his question.
"Um, well, I've kinda always liked you a little bit, and when you and Lori broke up I kinda thought maybe I had a tiny bit of a chance with you. I was probably being ridiculous, I mean after all why would someone as amazing as you settle for someone like me? But I guess I just thought-"
Ben chose that moment to kiss her, effectively cutting off her rambling.
When they broke away, Cally opened her mouth to protest but Ben silenced her with a finger on her lips.
"Cally, theirs something I've been meaning to say since the ball, but what with the Diluvian debacle I didn't have the chance. I didn't really think of you as someone I'd be interested in before, but when you asked me I realized. You're a truly amazing person, and I'd be honoured if you would be my girlfriend."
There was silence for a minute as they looked at each other. Cally opened and closed her mouth a few times, doing a rather stunning impression of a goldfish, before she smiled and threw her arms around him.
"So?" He asked nervously.
She pulled back to look at him. "Yes. Of course I'll be your girlfriend."
With that she kissed him again.
Several minutes later, they came up for air. "Come on," Cally said, still smiling, "We'd better get going before Eddie comes looking for us."
