Kaylee hummed softly to the music as it played, her hands moving down the sides of the overly pink and frilly dress. "Dress ain't stupid." She muttered, fixing the shoulders as she looked in the small mirror next to her hammock.

She knew she wouldn't have a chance to ever wear a dress so fancy anymore but having it made her feel nice. She hadn't stopped grinning since Inara and Mal came back safe and sound.

The engine room seemed to be the only place she could slip it on now, so she did. The cargo bay was filled with cattle and she wasn't going to chance having one of them dig their horns into the frilly skirt. Inara had turned in early, claiming she was tired. If she went into the dining hall Jayne's bound to laugh at her and Kaylee had too many spare parts in her room to move around in it really.

The music she captured played softly on the little radio she had from home and if she closed her eyes real tightly she could almost feel like she was at some fancy party. Only this time she felt like she fit in a bit more.

"Kaylee?" She jolted when she heard a voice behind her, twirling around she grinned when she saw who it was.

"Simon, hey." She felt herself blush slightly when he looked at her dress. Maybe she did feel a bit foolish moving around in the engine room wearing it. "What are ya doin' here? Somethin' wrong with River or…"

He smiled, rocking on the balls of his feet and digging his hands into his pockets. "Oh, ohh no, nothing's wrong with River. She's sleeping actually, I gave her a sedative to help her sleep… That…that's not why I came down here, I." He sighed heavily, realizing that maybe he shouldn't have come down to talk to her, even as much as he wanted to he never was good at talking to girls. "I…"

"Simon, it's just lil' ol' me, yaknow. Just Kaylee; you can talk 'ta me." Her voice was soft and she moved forward, gasping when her dress pulled on a spare engine coil she had lying on the floor. Kaylee bent down to nervously untangle it but Simon was already kneeling at her feet to help as best he could.

He looked up at her shyly. "Doesn't seem to be too damaged…there's just a small pull in the lace…" Simon stood up and decided that he needed to take a little something for himself, even if it was just a small moment with Kaylee.

"Zoe… I heard her talking to Wash and… Captain Reynolds had no right saying that of you. It was rude." He muttered, wondering where his train of thought had gone.

"I pay no mind to him, he can be aKuh-ooh duh lao bao-jurnsometimes…"

"Still didn't give him the right. I…I think you…" He shifted nervously again, reaching up and wiping a small spot of engine grease off of her cheek. "Dress is very…" She looked up at him and waited for him to finish, wondering if he'd actually make a move or something towards her.

The music she was playing before restarted it's self and filled the room, it's soft melody's trying to push away the tension in the room.

"Kaylee…I…" A small smile tugged at the corner's of his lips and he moved away from her, making her heart sink till he made one of those fancy grand gestures and bowed, offering her his hand. "Care to dance?"

For once she was without words and quietly she took his hand.
