While my muse decided to take a vacation due to excessive school work (Not. An. Excuse.) I decided to write this little fic while I should have been doing work in class. Which is why school work is not a legit excuse. As we speak I should be finishing a research paper that is due on Tuesday. But I'm not. So, feel free to give me a virtual slap for procrastination. I kinda deserve it.
Not too long, but short and sweet. Love you all, and enjoy. :)
Wait for me.
"Come on Gin, hurry up! Don't be such a bum!" The girl's voice traveled down the hill, where a young boy with silvery hair was slowly making his way up the slope. He grinned amusedly up at her and slowed his steps, only making the girl stamp her foot in annoyance.
Don't leave me behind.
"Ne ne, Ran-chan, I'm comin'. Keep yer panties on." Gin replied, frowning when his foot caught on a root. He looked back up the hill at the strawberry blonde, who was laughing at his blunder and waving enthusiastically. A fond smile crossed his face and he pushed onward.
Stay with me until the dark is long gone.
"So wha'dya want me t' see?" He asked when he reached the summit, looking around at the grassy area. A few scattered trees cast long shadows in the coming dusk, leaving his small form shrouded in darkness while the girl opposite him stood in the last beams of daylight. She smiled cheekily.
Don't throw yourself in the shadows for my sake.
"Look!" She grinned. He raised an eyebrow, but his eyes followed her gesturing hand to the sun that was slowly disappearing in the distance. Liquid fire spread across the horizon, tapering off into a pale orangish blue before melding into the darkness above.
Promise that you won't abandon me.
"It's pretty." He said simply, then turned his grinning face toward the girl he had saved not too long ago. "But Ran-chan's prettier." She rolled her eyes in response and gave his shoulder a light shove before she turned to face the fading rays with a look of contentment on her face. He couldn't help but feel a little envious of her ability to take joy in the small pleasures.
Let me be your light.
"It's Ran-chan's birthday sunset." Gin stated after they had stood together for a few minutes. The girl nodded and sat in the grass, drawing her knees to her chest and patting the spot beside her. Gin sat, smiling softly when she leaned her head on his shoulder.
Let me lend you my strength.
"You're staying for today, right Gin?" She asked almost hopefully. The shoulder she leaned on shook with a small chuckle. "'Course. It's Ran-chan's birthday after all." The boy replied. She sighed. "And tomorrow?" His silence made her smile falter a bit. Nonetheless she hugged his arm and they sat together as the last rays died away and, second by second, stars twinkled into view.
When we are apart, don't forget me.
"Ne, Ran-chan." The boy spoke up as said girl gave a shudder in the chilling night air. "We shoul' get back." The girl nodded and he stood, taking her outstretched hand and pulling her to her feet. He slipped an arm around her as they walked to keep the worst of her shivers at bay as they made their way back to the little home they shared together.
Show me that I mean something to you.
An hour later the young boy tucked a blanket snugly around the girl's sleeping form, kissing her forehead before heading to the door. Pausing before stepping out into the frigid air, he cast a sad smile over his shoulder. Rangiku slept peacefully, but he could see the minute furrow of her brows. She knew he wasn't going to be there when she woke.
Promise you'll come back to me.
He slid the door closed and put as much distance between the shack and himself as he could. Rangiku didn't need to know where he went. All she needed to do was remain his Ran-chan, and keep a smiling face.
Or I will cry.
