(Inheritance, page 389) ...Rooms that are bigger on the inside than the outside...
Now that is a story to tell, Solembum added secretly to himself as he was recapping a few strange events he had stumbled upon to Eragon. It was not exactly a room he was talking about but it sounded much more sober then explaining about the foreign blue box he had the fortunate chance of finding quite by accident.
There he was, strutting through an alley with his werecat pride when a strange wind picked up out of no where. The air vibrated as a strange whirring noise filled the alleyway and a blue box- no, the blue box- faded into exisctance right before his paws. Solembum blinked, his pupils engulfing his amber orbs as he stared curiously at the box. Above what seemed like the door was the words "POLICE -PUBLIC CALL- BOX" and before he could read what might have been a description under one of the fogged windows the door suddenly swung open.
Solembum jumped back in fright, his tail expanding to twice it's size and he expected some strange creature from another country to step out but it was just a man. He appeared to be in his thirties, had brown hair, brown eyes, a blue suit, and a brown trench coat thrown over it. The outfit wasn't exactly normal in Algaesia but then again the police box was not normal either. He looked around and a grin was plastered on his face similar to that of a child with a new toy. Solembum matted his fur down with a few quick licks to hide how startled he had been and peered at the stranger.
He did not feel threatened or scared by the man and carefully deemed that it would be safe to perhaps communicate. Drawing in a breath carefully, the werecat was about to present himself when suddenly the stranger said, "Hello there!" And crouched down, smiling cheerfully at the feline. If it was anybody else Solembum would have put on the guise of a normal cat but he had the feeling that the man would see through it.
And hello to you, The werecat responded telepathically, may I have the pleasure of knowing where you hail from strange human?
"Oh wow!" The man exclaimed, "A telepathic cat! Brilliant!" He went on for another few seconds about some bizzare subject that was quickly becoming unrelated before finally snapping back to the question at hand though he did not answer it directly, "I'm the Doctor, just a traveler doing... travelling stuff." He rubbed the back of his head awkwardly and stared into the cloud covered sky for a moment.
Solembum flicked an ear and then curled his tail around his haunches. Pleased to make your acquitance Doctor. You may address me as Solembum. Now... about that box- But before he could finish the Doctor cut in, "Ah yes. I suppose you are rather curious about that. But you know as they say, curiousity killed the cat! Mind you, the TARIDS -that's the box- won't cause you any harm." He paused to take a breath and then asked, "Mind telling me where I am?"
Now this was what the werecat could work with, an eye for an eye, an answer for an answer. Solembum grinned slyly and responded, Well I suppose I could tell you but where's the fun in that? I don't want you running off and leaving me with nothing but unsolved riddles.
As expected, the Doctor was not bothered by the proposition at all. He infact beamed and said, "That's the spirit. I guess showing you would be better then trying to explain it to you by the looks of things here."
The werecat was not sure whether or not to take that as an insult to his knowledge but he brushed it off in exchange for anticipation. As the Doctor straightened up and stepped back to his TARDIS, Solembum as well stood and padded nearer.
"Now just a peek and that's it." With that, the man took out a key from his pocket and inserted it into the keyhole. He then opened the door and stepped aside to allow Solembum to glance what was inside.
It's bigger on the inside!
