A/N: Alright, I admit this story probably seems a little bit far-fetched. I know it's not very realistic, but I'll try to do the best I can! Happy reading!
"Harry?" asked Ginny from next to him. "What are you thinking about right now?"
They were sitting by the fire in the Gryffindor Common Room together in their favorite couch - the one just in front of the fireplace. It was three days from the end of Harry's sixth year, and they were spending their final moments together before Harry must return to the Dursley's one final time before he came of age. With all that had happened since Dumbledore's death there was a lot on his mind.
Dumbledore's funeral was tomorrow. Harry didn't know how he was going to handle saying goodbye to the closest thing he had to a father. But that wasn't what he was thinking about right now. He was thinking instead about what was to come. There was so much left for him to do. Horcruxes to destroy and Dark Lords to kill to name a few, and he was only seventeen years old.
"Oh, nothing much Ginny" he finally replied. "Just thinking about Dumbledore's funeral tomorrow, you know."
"Ah."
They lapsed into a comfortable silence. Harry had just returned to his thoughts when Ginny interrupted again.
"I'm going to make some tea for us before I go to bed. What kind would you like, Harry?"
"Oh, anything is fine Ginny."
At that moment there was a short rapping on the window. An owl had brought a letter for them. But at this hour?
Harry rose from the couch by the fire and moved to the window to let the owl in. He quickly untied the letter from her leg and began to read. It was from Lupin.
"Harry. Just wanted to let you know that a few people from the Order - our shaggy friend included - will be arriving shortly after the...events tomorrow to escort you directly home to your Aunt and Uncles. It has been decided by some that sending you on the train is just too risky and it would be easier just to sneak you out early. My regards, Remus Lupin."
Harry had expected something like this - there were too many people on the train and he was considered even higher security now that he was approaching his seventeenth birthday and the last of his mother's protection would disappear. He wasn't too bothered by it - the train had become a nasty ambush spot for Malfoy and his cronies anyway. He would miss his last train ride from Hogwarts though...oh well.
Ginny handed him his tea and they both headed towards their respective dormitories. Harry had been too preoccupied with the letter to notice the small vial that Ginny had poured in his up.
As Harry lay in bed contemplating his future and what it held, his thoughts turned to Ginny. He didn't know what he was going to do about her. He couldn't bring her with him to search for Horcruxes - it was much to dangerous for a girl just entering her sixth year. It was probably too dangerous for him, too. And what if Voldemort used her against him? He would have to give in. There was no other way about it. He would have to break up with Ginny, to save them both the trouble.
It wasn't too big of a deal, breaking up with Ginny. Lately he had been losing some of his infatuation with the Weasley girl. Perhaps it was really best for both of them anyway. Besides, absence makes the heart grow fonder - right? There was nothing else to be done about it.
Harry drifted into sleep, his dreams riddled with nightmares of falling from towers and murderous men in cloaks. His untouched tea sat on the nightstand beside him.
A/N: You're probably all thinking "Oh no, another one of those stories..." but wait! There's more! Stay tuned for a special twist. Please review! It makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside.
