I'm not sure there's really any point in a disclaimer, as I don't really use any of the characters, but just in case some evil person decides they want to sue me: I don't own anything Cold Case related.

A/N: This is a poem which I was inspired to write by an amazing episode of Cold Case: 'Fly Away'. Hope you like it! Please review, but don't flame!

Butterflies and Bruises

The happiest days of your life,

Were the saddest in many ways,

Your fragile butterfly wings are torn,

Your angry bruises glare.

Fly my butterfly baby,

Fly where he can't hurt you.

Take a running leap from the highest point,

As high as a heartbeat you sail,

Then down,

Down,

Stop.

The warming cold grows,

The comforting dark surrounds you like a blanket,

Your slowing, thudding heart stops.

You soar into the air,

Your full, bright coloured wings,

Carry you to the clouds,

As you leave behind your broken, bruised shell,

You're free my butterfly baby,

Beautiful and free.

He can't hurt you any more:

No more bruises;

Only wings.
