Home for the Holidays
A/N: What can I say? I was feeling fluffy.
Summary: Brennan and Parker talk on Christmas Eve…both missing someone special. BB.
Disclaimer: I humbly acknowledge that I do not own Bones.
"When's Daddy coming home?" asked Parker on Christmas Eve.
"I don't know honey," replied Brennan. "Daddy's on an undercover mission."
"What's und-cover?"
"Undercover means that he pretends to be someone else so that he can give the FBI the information that they need to arrest the bad guy."
"Oh. So why can't he call?"
"Because the bad guys are smart. They could do something to his phone and track us down and hurt us." Parker's brown eyes widened with fear as he looked into Brennan's soft blue eyes.
"Daddy doesn't want to hurt us." It was a statement, not a question.
"No he doesn't."
"Daddy told me he'd be home for Christmas. Where's Daddy?"
"He'll be here. I know he will." Brennan pulled the small boy into her arms as they sat in front of the fire. She stroked his hair and softly sang to him. "I'll be home for Christmas…You can plan on me. Please have snow, and mistletoe, and presents on the tree. I'll be home for Christmas…If only in my dreams…"
Parker's deep breathing signalled that he was asleep, but she didn't want to put him to bed yet. She sat in front of the fire until the last ember went out. Brennan carefully picked up the sleeping boy and turned towards the stairs. She had her foot on the first stair when the doorbell rang. She set Parker down on the couch and opened the door.
"I'm home," said the silhouette at the door. The voice was so familiar that it challenged her doubts. He held out his hand and she saw it. Just one little thing. A wedding band.
"Seeley!" she cried and she threw herself into his arms. She pulled him inside and brought him to the couch. "He's been waiting for you."
"Hey bub," said Booth as he shook Parker's shoulder gently. Slowly his eyes opened.
"Dr. Bones?" he asked sleepily. "Daddy!!" He was fully awake now as he sprung himself into his father's arms. "I told you he'd be home!"
"You were right Parker," said Brennan. "He's home for the holidays."
A/N: Wipes tear from eye. That was beautiful. I didn't know I could be so…sentimental. Starts crying again.
