Marry Me?
It had finally come down to it.
They'd saved the world from shop window dummies, Slitheen, Daleks, Sycorax, Krillitanes, Cyberman, and even the Beast himself, and during it all, the Doctor had walked away even more amazingly in love with Rose Tyler.
There were a thousand and one things that he loved about her. Her smile, the way her eyes lit up when they landed on a new planet, the way she fell asleep in his arms, the way she kissed, he loved everything about her.
So, he decided to ask her the most important question he would ever ask her. He'd never found the right time before but today would be different, today he had a plan.
He intended to take her out for a romantic evening in Paris; the planet, not the city. They would drink fine wine and eat the best food in the universe and at the end of the evening he was going to take the plunge
But as she lay asleep on the bed; which had become their bed a couple months ago, she looked so incredibly beautiful that he had a crazy idea.
He got up from the bed quietly so as not to disturb her and made his way to the library.
Pulling open cluttered desk draw, he drew out a small black velvet box and opened the lid. Inside lay the most beautiful ring he had ever seen.
It was a thin silver band on which was set a small clear stone which created a fire of colour when caught by the tiniest stream of light
He smiled as he closed the box, and crept back into their bedroom.
Rose was laid on her back; the duvet pulled down to her waist. She looked like an angel laying there in her pink tank top.
The Doctor silently sat on the edge of the bed and opened the box. Taking out the ring he placed it on her chest; then laid back and feigned sleep.
It was several minutes before Rose woke up to find the dazzling ring resting on her chest. She sat up and held it in her hand, awed by the beauty of it.
"But where?" she mumbled to herself.
She turned around and found the Doctor looking at her.
"You gave me this?" she said "But why?"
He sat up looked at her, his dark eyes brimming with love that was only for her.
"Because," he started, his voice breaking. "Will you marry me?"
Rose gasped. She had never expected to hear those words out of the Doctors mouth. For just a moment she didn't know what to say; but it was only for a moment.
"Yes" she said laughing and crying at the same time.
The Doctor smiled one of his bigger than life smiles and she threw herself into his arms.
Their lips met and they kissed: a kiss which was so fervent it left them breathless.
They pulled apart and Rose curled into the Doctor's side. He took the ring from her and slipped it onto her finger.
Rose held it up, watching as it caught the tiny bit of light in the room and created a rainbow in the stone.
"That's beautiful," she said "What is it"
"It's an exceptionally rare Rainbow Diamond." He told her. The stone is created when stars go supernova. Bits of sand and rock fuse together in the heat and make tiny prisms that capture the tiniest bit of light and make a rainbow, of sorts, in the gem."
""Why this ring?" she asked.
"Because it's rare and it reminds me of you."
He smiled at her and took her hand in his. "When I met you I was heading toward the dark. You came along and took the small flicker of light that I had left, and made a rainbow out of it" he said, his voice proud.
"Rose Tyler, I love you."
"I love you, Doctor."
