-- I don't own Man in the Iron Mask, though I do wish I did --
-- Poem from Athos's point of view from the time he learns Raoul was killed till the death of D'Artagnan. Enjoy! --
In The Name Of Our Love, Amen
How could I ever express the pain
Of losing your only son
The loss you feel at receiving a letter
Saying his death was by cannon or gun
How could I ever express the rage
That passes through at this time
Wishing the death of he who caused it
Around his throat, I'd picture sharp twine.
How could I ever express the betrayal
I felt when you held me at bay
Not letting me take the revenge I so needed
Falling victim to harsh words I say
How could I ever express the fear
Of taking a needed proposal
A once only chance to replace the king
Who I wished no more then disposal
How could I ever express the sadness
I felt when you turned us away
I left in a rage when you told us all no
Still you thought it would all be okay
How could I ever express the guilt
When I said as a pissed off goodbye
"The next time we meet," I said to you
"One of us... will die"
How could I ever express the longing
To bring you back to us all
You weren't supposed to die this way
You were never supposed to fall
How could I ever express the regret
For never telling you I loved you so
I tried to tell you with my eyes
And in dying you seemed to know
How could I ever express the desire
To see you once again
I'll pray everyday for the time to come
In the name of our love, amen
