The Lost Future
Soaking wet from the rain, and covered in a variety of cuts and bruises he reached the door. He took a second before entering, just to take in the whirlwind of emotions that always hit him when he reached this door.
To most people, this was a door like any other. There was nothing special about it, nothing to distinguish it from other doors.
But to him, it was more than just a door. It was a symbol. Both of how far he had come, but also of what lay ahead. This door was at once full of hope and regret.
The regret was rooted in his actions. Ending the life of his beloved brother, abandoning the only people loyal to him, and killing unending waves of faceless innocents.
The hope radiant in the door stemmed from the love and faith his friends showed in him despite all the wrongs he committed. These were the same friends he had abandoned and even tried to kill, yet they showered him in undeserving forgiveness and kindness.
And so, every time he was in front of this door, he took a moment to reflect on all his blessings and all his mistakes.
Taking a deep breath, he slowly opened the door, and walked in. Immediately, he was hit by the scent of a delicious meal being cooked. Using his ninja skills he silently made his way into the kitchen and towards his pink-haired wife, who was standing in front of the stove.
Despite standing directly behind her, she still hadn't noticed his presence. He was about to surprise her, but he took a moment to take in her lovely aroma. To him, there was nothing more pleasing to his nose than the scent of his wife.
A smile crept onto his face, as he thought of her imminent reaction to what he was about to do.
Suddenly, he grabbed her from behind and squeezed her while his face made its way to her neck, which he gave a small kiss.
The moment he touched her Sakura gave a scream before beginning to laugh and then finally,
"Sasuke, stop. Put me down." She says still laughing.
Reluctantly, he put her down. There was just something about the way it felt, when she was in her arms that made him not want to let go. Almost as if letting go would mean that she would fly away forever and become lost to him.
"Sasuke, you're hurt." Sakura suddenly says to him with the concern evident in her eyes.
"Ah." He affirms.
"Let me take a look," She insists. "You have to be more careful on missions Sasuke! These are serious injuries."
"Ah." He replies almost nonchalantly.
"Sasuke, please. These aren't just things where your mom can kiss them and they'll go away." She explains seriously to him as if he was a child and didn't understand that.
"Well, why don't you try kissing them?" He asks with a wry smile.
"Well, I may know a few tricks" She replies with a grin before walking towards their bedroom.
He felt the rain pour down onto his face and body. He opened his eyes and looked upon the fruits of his labor. The Village Hidden in the Leaves lay in ruin in front of him. Bodies were scattered everywhere with pools of blood collecting and mixing with the rain.
In front of him, was the dead body of Naruto Uzumaki. The only person left in any condition to fight was a pink-haired woman. She was beautiful, but right now her eyes were red and he knew that mixed with the raindrops on her face were teardrops.
Perhaps, in another life, maybe there was a future for the two of them. But in this life, it was just not meant to be. In the end, he had only himself and the decisions he made to blame for that.
So this time, he thought twice about what he would choose. And instead of killing her, he walked away.
He couldn't help but leave the door open just a crack instead of closing it completely.
I hope you guys enjoyed it! It's only meant to be a one-shot, but maybe some awesome reviews will change my mind. Speaking of, REVIEW! That's all, thanks for reading!
