Stirring in her sheets, the Princess Rin Kagamine awoke. She threw the covers onto the plush velvety floor and jumped from the bed. She was careful not to make noise. If she woke any maids or her mother, trouble would surely arise. She slipped on slippers and tiptoed from the room.

Her tiny footsteps were barely heard by a soul besides those of the mice. Rin made her way quickly but carefully through the hallways and soon arrived in the grand entryway.

It had an extremely high ceiling, an ornate chandelier hanging from it, surrounded by a gorgeous mural of the night sky. The floor was sleek marble, and a deep blue thin carpet spread from the front doors to the space between the twin staircases. Rin didn't pay any attention to its vanity, as she lived here, and had since she was born.

Her nimble fingers grasped the door knob. She turned it and stepped outside.

Cool, fresh air greeted her. The lawn was large and expansive, covered in trimmed hedges and trees and patches of bright flowers. It had a calm feeling. She rushed down the cobblestone pathway through the greenery and thought of what awaited her.

With her family's high aristocrat status, there was no way for her to roam the city streets like a regular kid. She longed to meet street boys and girls and feed pigeons and buy apples from vendors and actually...make friends. She had never had a friend that wasn't ordered to socialize with her or been pre-arranged by her parents.

Soon the princess had made her way to the entrance of a suburb of the city. She would take a carriage into its heart.

Old buildings and newer buildings were smudged together, and uneven streets made Rin feel anew. She spotted a strong-looking horse pulling a common carriage, and she waved them down. The driver pulled over, and asked for upfront payment.

"Here you go, sir!" She said.

"Ah...thank you. Oi, you look familiar..." He responded with a cock of his head.

Rin's eyes widened. Had she been discovered already?

"Oh, sorry. Hop on. The name's Kaito."

The driver had blue hair and wore a dirty white coat, and an average black hot atop his head. His eyes were young but tired.

Soon the horse began trotting and they were on their way.

They passed bookstores and cafes, and Rin's heart raced with excitement. She saw a gang of children tossing a ball around.

Another, older girl, came over to them, and with a sweet smile gestured for them to go inside. Rin put a hand on Kaito's shoulder.

"Please...stop." She was captivated by the girl.

The girl had long green twintails and sweet eyes, and wore a bluish nightgown which didn't conceal her elegant form. She seemed almost motherly.

Rin jumped from the carriage and looked at her.

Their eyes met. They stood, locked in an eternal gaze. A gaze that would begin their adventurous and dangerous romance.
