Sunshine
How would you define love, happiness, comfort, and family? There are many ways you can define these words, but for Judy Garrison it's simply cooperation and support from her family .Life is hard for the Garrison family after the death of Mr. Albert Garrison. Judy knows that she cannot expect her mom to give her a fancy and easy life like other kids, but she knows for sure that her mom will stand by her side regardless of whatever happens. Her future is long and complicated. She doesn't know what is waiting for her, but she will stay strong and overcome everything.
Mrs. Linda Garrison suffered through many hardships to keep her two daughters alive after her husband died in a car accident. The older daughter is Judy Garrison and the younger is Ella Garrison. When Mr. Albert died, Judy was 8 and Ella was 7 years old. Mrs. Linda worked days and night to keep her family alive. Sometimes, she sits by the photo of her husband and cry alone.
They lived in a small house that has 3 rooms in New York. The family is poor, but they manage to get enough food to stay alive. They have two bikes, one for Judy and one for Ella. Judy and Ella ride the bike to school every day. The two sisters love each other so much and they work really hard to help improve their family conditions. Their biggest goal in life is give their mother a happy and comfortable life because their mom suffers too much. During the summer and after school, they always work at small shops or restaurant to gain money. From the day their dad died, they never get to wear fancy clothes or eat all of the expensive food. Many kids laugh and tease them, but they didn't care.
Judy and Ella are very smart. They got good grades every term which make their mother very proud. At school they make lots of friends because they are friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, many racist kids who take family condition into consideration try to avoid them. Those kids are envy that the two sisters are smart and get many supports from friends and teachers.
This year Ella would graduate into grade twelve and Judy will continue on to college but she's not sure yet if she could afford it or not. Even though, she gets the scholarship, she needs money for school supplies and other needs. Now Judy is trying to find support from successful business people who want to help poor kids.
Today is a beautiful summer day where the weather is warm and the clear blue color cover the sky. Today is the first day of Judy and Ella's summer job at the ice cream shop call "Our Glory". The time is 6:30 in the morning. Mrs. Linda is fixing breakfast for Judy and Ella. A minute later we can hear loud footsteps coming down the stairs.
"Mom, what do we have for breakfast?" Ella asks as she approaches the table.
"It's special since it's your first day at a new job. Wait for your sister to come down and you'll know. Be patient girl. " Mrs. Linda answers as she finishes the cooking.
"I'm here! What's the surprise mom?" Judy asks as she rushes toward the table.
Mrs. Linda brings the tray over to the table but there is a lid covering the soup. The two girls get very excited, but they wait for their mom to settle down. After Mrs. Linda sat down, Judy and Ella simultaneously open the lids.
"Chicken soup!" Judy and Ella exclaim in unison.
