Yet another attempt at the CloudxAerith 100 Themes Challenge. (I like writing, what can I say) This theme is promises.
BTW, I didn't really know how to revert to the reader's POV, so I put Reader's POV -shrugs-
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Aeris' POV
You promised that you'll be my bodyguard for the price of a date, you kept it, you know. No matter what you say, or what you do, I'll never blame you.
Cloud's POV
I promised that I'd be your bodyguard for the price of a date, I never kept it, I know. No matter what you say, or what you do, I'll always blame myself.
Reader's POV
Black clouds loomed over the Forgotten City, threatening to pour rain apon the single living person inside the entire city, Flowers swayed, the only source of colour in the desolate city. The rain started, soaking everything it touched. Petals from the flowers blew around in the wind, flying around a wolf that stood watching.
A lake was in the centre of the city, the relfection of the flowers in the water being rippled by the wind. A figure with a stepped towards the lake, a bunch of flowers in his hand. At the water's edge, Cloud Strife placed the yellow flowers on the surface of the water, and stepped back slowly and sat down.
A hand over his heavy heart, Cloud whispered, "Happy Birthday Aeris." to his lost love, felled by the blade of a sword, whose final resting was the bed of the lake.
He heaved a great sigh, feeling for all the world worthless. "I'm sorry, I couldn't protect you, even when you needed me the most." The silence that followed wasn't different from anytime Cloud tried to speak to her, but it was one of the worst things that could have happened.
He needed to hear her, to stop himself from going crazy. But, there was no point in speaking aloud to no one, if no one was going to answer. He got up, and brushed his trousers, and turned around, walking towards the trees, but not without saying goodbye.
Yet, even though there was no one else there but the wolf that stood still, still watching the lake, a woman's voice sounded, as a crack of light apperead through the trees...
Don't blame yourself Cloud, your promises are unbroken.
