Hey everybody! This is my first story, and I'm really excited to finally be using the site. Please be nice in the review. Constructive criticism is welcome, but don't just insult something just for the sake of insulting it, please have a reason. Thanks, and I hope you enjoy the story!
Chapter One
The Penderwicks were once again experiencing a long and crowded car ride, and longing desperately for the fun to come once it ended. All the Penderwicks, both new and old, were heading to Arundel. The four girls, Rosalind, Skye, Jane, and Batty, were all especially excited to see their friend Jeffrey, who they hadn't seen in three years. The four girls had been elated when they found out that they would be seeing Jeffrey again, but none of them could deny that the long car ride with six people other than himself and a dog was definitely taking away some of their elation.
"Batty, stop kicking my seat!" said and irritable Skye as she looked behind her at her younger sister, who was sitting in the furthest back of the three rows in the car.
"Sorry, but I wanted to see if Hound was okay," said Batty, as though that explained everything.
"He's fine," assured Jane, who was next to Skye and was holding a restless Hound on her lap. On the other side of Jane, little Ben reached out his hand and pet Hound. Batty began to sing softly. After Point Mouette, she had taken up music. She had got a small upright piano which she had been very successful with, but she was never a very good singer.
"Be quite!" said Skye loudly. She and Batty got into a back and forth argument.
"Daddy, how much farther?" asked Rosalind from her seat next to Batty. Their father, Martin Penderwick, was driving and looking a little distressed from the arguments commencing behind him. He was trying to tune out the squabbling girls, so did not really hear Rosalind's question. Luckily, Iantha did.
"Only about ten more minutes," she said. Rosalind sighed in relief. She loved her sisters, but they could be quite tiring at times like these, and it was hard to remain level headed. Only a few more minutes, and then we will all be happy, she thought. Jane was trying to write in her notebook, but was finding it difficult to do with hound in her lap. After three years she still had not given up on Sabrina Starr. Her writing was becoming more mature though. Batty was still singing, and Skye was beginning to wonder if she would have to murder her. However, she didn't have long to dwell on that subject, because just then they pulled up in front of a beautiful mansion. Skye smiled. Now she would be at peace.
Well, that's chapter one! I know it wasn't the most exciting. It will be later, I promise. Thanks for reading! Please review.
