Xavin could feel those eyes on her as she moved around the bedroom. She kept her own glued to her hands as she followed her nightly routine. Her hand danced along the tops of the shirts within the drawer unsure. Normally she never bothered with clothes, merely shifting her own. But tonight she was just tired, more tired than she'd ever imagined possible back on Tarnax VII .
"Sweetie?" Came the timid voice from the bed. She twisted round so quickly she startled the other girl in the bed. Karolina's eyes widened and she shrank back into the headboard. Xavin exhaled slowly.
"I am sorry beloved, I did not mean to startle you." She breathed, moving to sit on the edge of the bed. The fear that had briefly flashed across Karolina's face, soured her stomach.
"Oh no, honey, its not…" Karolina trailed off her blue eyes watering.
"I understand. My earlier behaviour was uncalled for. I will not lose my temper again." Looking at her upturned palms on her knees, she avoided eye contact. A soft hand appeared to stroked her shoulder. Looking up brown eyes met blue. A weak smile covered Karolina's face, as her hand trailed down Xavin's arm to clasp hand tight. With a tug she encouraged Xavin to come lay with her.
Allowing herself to be lead Xavin lay down beside her, shifting her clothes into the looser sleeping clothes that were favoured by humans. Karolina, used to the sudden changes Xavin often made to appearance, giggled faintly curling into her side.
The room was quiet with the sound of their breathing. Xavin kept quiet, waiting for Karolina to speak. She herself was too ashamed, she didn't want to face her beloved's fear. The minutes stretched, and the sound of their breathing engulfed the room. Soon the blonde snuffled against her before finally speaking.
"It wasn't uncalled for. They took us, and Teddy and Billy. They br-broke your neck! And your Dad I didn't… He did that? He did that to you? Left you with those…" Karolina's voice broke, and her breathing hitched. And then she dissolved into tears.
"Karolina?" Xavin whispered, tilting her head in an attempt to see the sobbing girl. Karolina clung tighter to her refusing to be moved. Her tears and shuddering breaths stopped her from speaking, even as she attempted to. Xavin's heart squeezed tightly at the girl clinging to her as though her life depended on it.
"You- you- I-I-I-" Karolina wheezed, before the little composure that she had gathered failed. Xavin frowned deeply, pushing herself up to lean against the head board. Karolina gave a weak cry as she felt Xavin shift away, her grip tightening.
"Shhh." Xavin hushed, her heart breaking at the normally strong Majesdanian, snaking her arm out and round to tug her closer. Karolina burrowed into her, burying her face into dark skin. Xavin hummed, the Beatle's song that the blonde adored. Karolina let out a watery chuckle, as she nuzzled closer, her other arm moving to hug Xavin's neck.
"Beloved?" Xavin whispered once the cries had dissolved into silent tears. Karolina hiccupped but nodded into the warm skin of her neck.
"What is wrong?" Xavin asked fingers rubbing the back of the hand wrapped round her neck. With a heaving breath Karolina gathered her voice. Leaning back slightly blue eyes sought out brown.
"One moment you were there, and the next you were gone. I heard your neck snap, and then you were just… Gone. For a second there I thought you disappeared." Karolina's eyes scrunched up and she curled back into the body next to her, sobs starting again. Xavin's face crumpled, she couldn't imagine the idea of Karolina just not being there anymore. It hurt.
"I won't leave. I promise." Xavin whispered into wisps of soft blonde hair.
