An Encounter.

Renesmee turned to her left where her aunt was frozen in place; still holding the pile of daffodils she had been decorating the house with.

"Alice?" She asked evenly, reaching out to touch her arm. Alice's eyes were not focused, it was as if someone had taken her away and left a statue in her place. I knew that pose, I had seen it only a few times before though, when I was much younger.

Edward! I knew he would hear my thoughts. It felt funny though, calling him Edward and not just Dad. But within seconds he was there, standing by my side. I took pride in the fact that I was nearly as tall as him now. His face was perfectly serene as he listened to Alice's thoughts. While he was still listening, he mumbled; probably to me:

"Get the others… now." There wasn't any change in his voice, no anger or fear, just a strained tone as he tried to get words out without breaking his concentration. I thought about saying their names but that would've taken too long and Dad had said now, so:

"Everyone! Gather round please!!" I called, loud enough for everyone to hear. I turned back to the two adults behind me. Alice let out a breath. Phew. I heard the soft footsteps as the rest of the household gathered around.

"Renesmee, what's going on?" Carlisle, I could pick his tone of voice out from the rest easily. I turned to face them.

"Alice had a vision. I called Edward and they've been standing there for age- a while now."

Jasper was at his wife's side in an instant. "Alice? Can you hear me?" He said carefully. I felt the sea of calm he sent over her from where I was standing. Mum looked at Dad.

"What did she see?"

"I don't know. I couldn't see it properly. The vision was mixed and jumbled up; I couldn't see anything in it," Dad replied, he sounded so confused.

Silence.

"The Volturi." I turned my head round to where the bell-like voice had come from.

No-one spoke. Minutes passed. Jasper did not even try to manipulate anyone's emotions this time. Even Emmett was quiet for once. Mum looked so worried, and she was looking at me too. But I heard something outside and it took all my strength not to run up to him and tell him everything; Jacob was here. I got to the door and let the werewolf in. His musky forest scent hit me and I sighed, despite the scene behind me. Jacob smiled, taking in the living room scene. Then the smile was gone.

"What've I missed?" Hearing his voice made my heart leap. Of course I had to tell him.

"Alice just had a vision of the… um… Volturi." I babbled. There was a loud echo as Jacob's growl vibrated the air.

"Why?!" He hissed. Now someone else had to answer him breaking the seven vampires in surrounding Alice break their perfect façade. It was Alice who spoke, the sound of her voice scared me.

"To finish the job they didn't complete last time."

Jacob was really angry now.

"BUT WE'VE DONE NOTHING WRONG!!" He yelled angrily. I was surprised he didn't phase. Though I spoke to soon. Wolf-Jacob now stood in his place, sending out a chorus of snarls and barks. We all waited until he was calm to speak again.

"They have… come across new members of their guard who they believe will have the strength and abilities to overcome us." Edward spoke now, he was beginning to unravel Alice's vision now. Carlisle breathed in a breath in horror. But his foster son continued. "We have to gather everyone again, this time for a war."
