"Yo, Koji! Koji, wake up!"
Koji bolted up, guarding himself with his blanket. "Nh…Stan?" he asked holding his arm up to shield his eyes from the ceiling light.
"Yeah," the large man standing by the side of the bed handed Koji his glasses.
"What-How'd you get in here?" He rubbed his eyes then slipped his glasses on.
"I climbed through your window."
"Wh-What?"
Stan laughed, "Just kidding, I know where you hide your spare key."
"Oh yeah…What're you doing here? Did I miss work or something?"
Stan laughed again. "No, the garage is closed today, remember?"
He was quiet for a while. "No…I don't…"
"Well it's closed, and I wanted to be the first to say happy birthday to you."
"Koji sat and stared for a while. "Oh yeah!" His mouth curved into a smile. "It's my birthday!"
"Duh!"
They both laughed, then Koji yawned. "Do you think I could sleep for a little longer, though? I'm still tired…"
"Go ahead, man. I gotta work on setting up your party anyway." Stan turned to leave the room.
Koji called after him, "Party, where?"
"Here, but don't worry, only a few close friends, now I gotta start cooking." He turned to leave again.
"Stan?"
"Yeah?"
Koji smiled. "Thanks."
"Sweet dreams, buddy." Stan switched off the light and Koji curled up to sleep.
"Koji!"
"Aghh!" He bolted up again, shielding himself with his blanket. "Wh-What now?"
"Sorry, I got bored. I can't be standing in front of a stove all day! Plus, I gotta show you something. Come on."
"Mhh..." Stan walked out of the bedroom. Koji got dressed and went down to the kitchen where Stan was standing by the stove, stirring something. "Umm...What're you making?"
"You don't have to know just yet!" Stan nodded toward the table. It was covered in paper bags from the supermarket and a gift-wrapped box. "There's your present from me, buddy." He smiled and walked over to him. Patting his back, he pushed Koji to the table. "Open it, I want to see the look on your face!"
"Um…Okay…" He pulled the ribbon off and ripped the paper. "Oh wow!" He lifted the box. "It's that new drill I wanted!" He ran over to Stan and latched onto him. "Thank you thank you thank you!"
Stan patted his back smiling. "No problem, buddy! You've been bugging the boss about it forever! I just figured it'd make a great present."
"But this was really expensive! How'd you get it?"
"Been saving up for it, just for you, buddy!" Stan smiled brightly, but it faded slightly as he looked down at Koji, still holding onto him. He leaned down and gently kissed the top of Koji's head, startling him.
"S-Stan?" He looked up, cheeks flushing before theymet halfway, lightly pressing their lips together.
"Happy birthday, Koji."
