Lucy was really tired of waiting, and she was pretty sure Natsu had no idea what she was waiting on. Only the next step in their lives, and he couldn't figure it out! Well, there was just one thing to do about that. Actually, there were probably more ways to do, but she was in an impish mood.
Sometimes, Lucy would give Natsu a riddle or two when he was upset, to give him something else to focus on. Usually, it worked. Natsu would expend all of his mental energy on trying to figure out her riddle, and was therefore distracted. While he wouldn't be upset this time, she didn't want him to be. Just figure out the riddle and say the answer.
"Hey, Natsu!" she greeted him, sitting beside him in the guild hall. "Wanna hear a riddle?"
He opened his mouth to respond, but after a quick look from Lucy, he quickly shut it again and swallowed. "Sure! It's not really hard though, is it?"
Lucy shook her head. "I certainly don't think it is."
"Alright! I'm all fired up! Let's hear it!"
"Say there's a table, with room for four people to sit, but the four people don't know where to sit. There's you, me, Will, and Mary. In what order should they be seated?"
Lucy watched a look of utter concentration cross her boyfriend's face, and she almost laughed at it. It would take anyone else a few mere seconds to figure it out, but with Natsu, well...
Behind Natsu, Gray was watching the two of them and smirking. He held his hand together, creating a small ring, then held it out to Lucy, mouthing "for if he figures it out."
Lucy shook her head at him, struggling not to laugh. She turned her attention back to Natsu just as he opened his eyes to look at her.
"Uhm... you, me, Mary and Will?"
She smiled gently, shaking her head. "Nope, guess again-"
Natsu gasped, and a grin appeared on his face. "WAIT!" he all but shouted, moving to stand on the bench. "I THINK I KNOW!"
Lucy watched him in amusement, then in surprise as he hopped down from the bench, snagged the ring from Gray's hand, then knelt before Lucy with a big smile.
"Will, you, Mary, me?" he asked simply, and Lucy almost cried with happiness. She leaned forward to wrap her arms around his neck.
"Yes."
