One Shot: Captain America/Black Widow [AU]
"This world is gonna burn, burn, burn, burn…" The music blasted out of the radio and how fitting this song was to the situation I got myself into. Steve was sitting together with Clint and Wanda in the back of the car. How did we even get here?
"Be honest with me Nat! Just once." I never seen Steve this angry before. "I am. I've always been honest with you." I tried to assure him. "Then why doesn't it feel that way?" He let go of my hand and walked away. "Steve." I grabbed his arm and tried to make him stay without any luck. "Be honest with me. I'm not asking for anything else. It's all we have left these days."
"What do you want me to say? You know it all." I paused. "You know that I was an assassin. You know more about me then Clint. And that should say something." Steve looked at me. "I don't want to know more than Clint. I want to know it all. Everything. Otherwise I don't see how we can work together on this."
About an hour of driving with an uncomfortable silence we stopped to fill up the tank of the car. I was leaning against the car while I waited for it to be filled again. Clint walked up to me. "What's wrong? You and Cap seem rather… How do I say this… tense?" "I shouldn't be bothered with Steve right now. With Stark going nuts and the trickster god looking for us we should just make sure we get away from here." "Yes the world is a mess but we all need to work together, if we want to get through this."
"Easy for you to say. I don't even know what his problem is – except he doesn't trust me." Wanda and Steve were on their way back to the car when Clint pushed me away from the car. Roughly I landed against the cold floor. "The hell…." I started but stopped midsentence. The car was burning and looked like it would be exploding any minute. "NAT!" Steve shouted and grabbed my arm to help me up. I got up but we were still really close to the car when it exploded.
Everything went dark around me.
The moment I opened my eyes again my head felt like someone had been smashing it over and over again against a wall. I was leaning against Steve's shoulder. A fast movement of the car we were sitting in made me feel like I had to throw up. "Damn it, Clint." Steve said. "Language, Steve!" While Wanda laughed Steve frowned and tried to hold me steady. I felt save. "Where are we?" I muttered. Wanda turned around and looked at me. "Look who finally woke up." A smile appeared on her face. "Clint won't tell us but…" Steve started. "It's safe." Clint finished. His voice so serious that there wasn't any doubt that we would be safe at the place he driving to. Steve tilted his head down closer to mine. "Don't do that again Natasha." A smile crept up on my face.
