Hermione does not believe in divination. Quackery, pseudo-science, she says, trying to banish from her mind the mist of old memories: the broken prophecies in the department of mysteries, Harry's deadened face, when... no, she thinks, pseudo-science, nothing more to it than that.
Of course, it's all pure nonsense. She keeps telling herself that when she looks into James Sirius's eyes, flashing with mischief, and sees in them a foreshadowing of heroic life and untimely death.
Nonsense, she thinks, when she looks right above the messy-haired head of Albus Severus and catches a glimpse of an aura of great achievements and terrible mistakes.
Nonsense, she thinks, when the imagined future of Lily Luna seems to be at crossroads; an early and horrible death, or journeys, adventures and discoveries – what will it be?
Hermione does not believe in the magic of names. Superstition, she says.
And yet, she is glad that her and Ron's children have the unremarkable, mundane names of her parents. The names that carry with them a promise of life, happy and long.
