My very first Bravid fic! I'm really excited to start writing about my wonderful new OTP, so please tell me what you think!
The sound of a young baby's cries pierced the silent air of the room, stirring a slumbering Bryan from his sleep. He shifted around on the Egyptian cotton sheets, attempting to find a position that would drown out the noise.
"David," he mumbled in his weary state, nudging his partner with his socked foot, "wake up babe, little Edie is crying."
David cracked one sleepy eye open in the dim light, Edie's infant wails filling his ears and driving all the sleep from his body. "I got it," he mumbled incoherently. Reaching an arm up to blindly flick on the light switch, David rubbed the last remaining bits of sleep from his eyes and swung his legs out of bed and onto the polished wooden floor.
Wearing nothing but socks on his feet, David padded to the mahogany crib on the opposite side of the room, reaching inside to scoop the one month old baby into his bare arms. He shuffled back to the bed and sat down beside Bryan, gently rocking the baby in failed attempts to soothe her.
"Don't cry, little Edie, daddy's here," David cooed, staring down at his daughter's button nose and sky blue eyes (inherited from him, of course), wishing he could find some way to quiet her crying. "Bry, she won't stop," David turned to his half-asleep partner lying beside him, his eyes pleading for help.
"Do you want me to Google how to quiet a crying baby?" Bryan asked playfully despite his lack of sleep, eliciting a chuckle from David. "Alright, give the little precious over to me." Bryan reached out, taking Edie in his arms and alleviating the stress from David's system.
Cradling the infant in his arms in a similar fashion, Bryan began to sing, "Hush little baby, don't you cry, your dads are very sleep deprived." Sure enough, the piercing wails quieted to nothing more than soft breaths, bringing a look of astonishment to David's face and one of satisfaction to Bryan's.
"How did you do that?" David asked incredulously, lowering his voice to a whisper so as not to disturb Edie.
Bryan merely shrugged his shoulder nonchalantly, stroking Edie's soft cheek with his thumb. "I found out a few nights ago that Edie responds best when I sing to her, so I've come up with a few songs to sing in different situations. But I came up with that sleeping one just now though."
David stared with admiration at his partner, leaning forward to plant a thankful kiss on his lips. "Well thank you babe, I don't know what I'd do without you."
Bryan flashed a small smile, cautiously getting up from the bed to place Edie back in the crib. When he returned, he sidled under the soft white sheets, eager to fall back into his peaceful slumber, in which he dreamt about having brunch with Sarah Jessica Parker.
Before bathing the bedroom once more in darkness, David asked, "Could you teach me to sing to Edie like that?"
"No, I don't think so," Bryan replied, staring up at David with round eyes.
"Why not?" David asked indignantly, sliding down on the bed so he was face to face with Bryan.
"Because," he replied teasingly, "you're not as good a singer as me."
