A/N: This is my first Okiku Furikabutte/Big Windup fic. So I'm just a little nervous about posting it! The terms I'm using are actually baseball terms and the little facts Tajima and the group mentions are real. This one-shot is just a super quick little experiment so don't expect anything precisely spectacular -hehe-. I'm almost almost happy with the way it came out though. Hopefully, I'll get even better and post more up soon.
Disclaimer: I do NOT own Okiku Furikabutte/Big Windup.
It was a heater. He threw a heater; a really awesome fastball I couldn't wait to hit. Well it looked like a heater that is. Then … Then before I knew it, I had dirt on my tongue and in-between my teeth with a towel pressed against my head. Ugh, my head's throbbing; feels like I have slabs of led in my brain because it's so heavy. Did I … Did I get hit? Yeah, I definitely got hit. It happened so fast; too fast. I'm not knocked out, no way; just incredibly dazed and in pain. I can feel someone's hand squeezing mine, a sort of reassuring pat on the ribcage, a pack of ice chilling the towel, my aching head and voices; lots of voices. We aren't even major league players yet; just high school kids, but this guy, this pitcher, managed to get me down with a baseball. I coulda sworn I had my helmet on. The fastest pitch ever thrown so far belongs to Mark Wohlers and Joel Zumaya at 103 mph in 2006, right? Maybe this guy is going to be next in the record book with an awesome arm like that. Wait, awesome? Why am I calling it awesome and why am I thinking about fastest pitches?
"That asshole pitched a beanball!"
"T-Tajima?!"
"Are you okay Tajima?!"
"That guy's just pissed over giving up a homerun!"
Everyone's talking at once but it's alright. I can understand them. Everyone is angry at the pitcher. I want to open my eyes to let them know that I'm precisely okay but I think the sun will kill me and my jaw feels slack for some crazy reason. I know I didn't get pummeled there.
"That guy's got ... one heck of an arm." I manage to get out after working my jaw a little.
Since when did my heart start beating so fast? It's like I can hear it speeding away in my ears or something. It's drowning out all the familiar voices. Playing baseball must make your heart stronger or something. Soon, I can feel my body being shifted and lifted off the ground. As soon as I open my eyes, I can see blurring uniforms just before red and white lights temporarily blind me. I must be in an ambulance. Mom's gonna freak.
OWARI
Like I said, this was just something I scribbled down so it probably doesn't make much sense but oh well! XD
